I recognize finding a therapist can be challenging and overwhelming. I hope my profile gives you a sense of who I am as a professional and if I may be a good fit for you. I believe the foundation for therapeutic success is understanding the unique strengths of an individual. Tapping these resources that we each have assists individuals in finding their "best self" and increases the ability to problem solve, cope with difficulties in life, build stronger and healthier relationships, and increase overall quality of life.

My ideal clients are sensitive, deeply feeling women navigating life transitions - whether general life changes (therapy) or specifically divorce (coaching). They know they're capable of more than just surviving—they sense the potential for profound personal growth, even as they feel everything more intensely than others might. They want to move beyond overthinking and overwhelm, establish stronger boundaries, & create more meaningful relationships. Often, they find themselves questioning their choices, processing emotions deeply, & seeking meaning even amid chaos. Their sensitivity is both a challenge and their greatest strength.

Too often, therapy glosses over the fact that, at times, life is painful and messy. As much as some might try to fix or avoid this truth, most people are surprised by what comes from gently learning to embrace it instead. So, in session, I hold space for those sitting across from me—for their discomfort and conflicts, how they make sense of their inner and outer worlds, how they show up and interact, and how they hold themselves back. Moving beyond the surface in therapy allows us to more profoundly understand our struggles, ourselves, and our relationship with others. In time, this understanding leads us to a freer, fuller life.

For many individuals, verbalizing their thoughts and emotions can be challenging and sometimes impossible. Art therapy allows clients to explore experiential techniques with new and familiar art materials in a judgment-free space. I trust that art and the creative process have the power to ignite empowerment and bring about positive change in people’s lives. No prior experience in art-making is required! Additionally, there are no expectations for creating art.

Has your relationship been shaken by an affair? Are you feeling alone, overwhelmed, confused? Do you worry and wonder if you and your relationship can survive the overwhelming sense of betrayal? An affair rocks the foundation of a relationship. No one thinks it can happen to them or that they can survive the intense emotions of infidelity.

Being a child, teen or young adult is hard. And, yes it is hard being a parent, too. I believe that working collaboratively with young people and their families is necessary for lasting positive change. I have witnessed how therapy can be a powerful way to learn more about yourself, resolve conflict, and develop and practice life skills. With the client, we will explore needs, motivation for change, and set goals that are achievable and desirable. This will happen in an authentic, safe, affirming way that is moving toward wellness and hope.

For a moment, I’d like you to think about how you were raised, the hardships you've been through, and your current and past relationships. All of this impacts who you are right now. I'm here to help you recognize that YOU have the power to change the things you don't love about your life! We will process what happened to you, and eventually get to a place of self-acceptance. I’ll help you unpack painful memories, and teach you how to view these things differently, so they no longer consume you.

Hi! My name is Hazel Woody. I have my LCSW in the state of Wisconsin. I always take a client-centered approach, which focuses on meeting the client where they’re at. Two of the main theoretical frameworks I utilize are CBT and motivational interviewing. The majority of my clients in recent years have been children ages 9-17. I also work with adults. I commonly treat individuals diagnosed with depression, anxiety, ADHD, adjustment disorders, and PTSD. I like to create a very comfortable, laid-back environment. I let my clients lead the conversations and build rapport before jumping into treatment.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
