I have assisted a number of clients through life transitions, such as starting a family/new job/college/retirement/loss, etc.
My goal is to meet all clients where they are at on their journeys. Through the use of a combination of Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness, my clients have found peace and success in moving forward through difficult life situations. Each client has a unique story; I am determined to discover the story and assist the client in exploring the possibilities of a well balanced life. In providing a safe place to explore the feelings of disappointment, grief, anxiety, depression, and addiction, current and former clients have discovered these temporary vices prevent the client from moving forward.

Extensively trained with Dick Schwartz/ internal family systems/parts work and Terry Real and Relational Life Therapy
Has your relationship been shaken by an affair? Are you feeling alone, overwhelmed, confused? Do you worry and wonder if you and your relationship can survive the overwhelming sense of betrayal? An affair rocks the foundation of a relationship. No one thinks it can happen to them or that they can survive the intense emotions of infidelity.

Some of the approaches he identifies with to influence positive growth and healing are Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, phylosophical and Holistic modalities.
My approach in part is further influenced by utilizing a combination of psychologist D. Winnicott’s developmental theory of the false self vs true self and philosopher Jean-Paul Sarte’s reflections on self-deception and authenticity. Self inquiry and wisdom, I believe are the most profound sources of well-Being…as well as the most enduring.

I will guide you towards your goals, help you heal, reconnect your family, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.
My favorite question to ask is, ‘Is that okay with you?’, because this is your life, and you get the ability to dictate how it should look. Seeking therapy takes a great deal of courage and finding a therapist who is the right fit for you can seem overwhelming. Congratulations on taking that first step.

I work with clients who may be struggling with anger or trauma related to their relationships or family.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, my journey into the field of mental health has been personal and shaped by my belief in the inherent worth and potential of individuals. I am passionate about creating a safe, non-judgmental, and empathetic environment where my clients feel truly heard and valued. Rooted in person-centered therapy, I understand that each person’s experience is unique, and my role is not to impose solutions but to walk alongside them as they discover their own path toward healing and growth. For me, counseling is not about being the expert, rather being an active and supportive presence in my clients' lives.

Having fostered and adopted myself, I am particularly skilled to assist foster and adoptive family needs.
My office on the east side is a low keyed space where anyone can feel welcome and at home to talk ( or play or draw or write) about what is bothering them. Sometimes it is hard to talk, so creating a world in the sand tray can help jump start your journey towards healing. Everyone is welcome regardless of age, race, culture, creed, sexual orientation.

Not just with family and friends
So much of our anxiety, fears, and unrest come from not feeling seen and heard. From my time as a teacher and therapist I have learned how powerful nonjudgmental listening can be. In our work together you can be sure your thoughts and feelings will be held in a space full of openness and compassion.

I work with clients who suffer from trauma usually related to family situations and/or other relationships.
You deserve to be happy. No matter what has happened, or where you've been. We all have troubles, and we all need a little help sometimes. I am here to help you figure things out. You hold the key to getting better. You know yourself better than anyone, but sometimes when we're close to an issue it's hard to see the bigger picture or the best solutions. We will work together in a safe, non-judgmental space.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
