Life is a struggle sometimes and even then, it can feel like it is a struggle all the time. This can lead to emotional and physical fatigue/pain resulting in a lack of motivation to have relationships with anyone and even ourselves. When we feel like the world is against us is when it is most important to reach out to someone and that is where a therapeutic
relationship
comes into play. The therapeutic
relationship
is one that you can trust, feel no judgment, find guidance, and learn to trust yourself again.

I teach skills and new ways of thinking to manage anxiety,
relationship
issues, work stress, OCD, and life dissatisfaction.
Have you done everything you were “supposed” to do, only to find yourself feeling unfulfilled, dissatisfied, or empty? Does it look like you have it all together from the outside, but you feel like you are falling apart on the inside? Maybe you're always looking toward the next goal to help you feel at peace, but it never does? You've worked hard to get to where you are, only to feel confused because your success hasn't made you feel happy. This can be a frustrating place to be, but it can get better.

Seated in a trauma-informed and person-centered approach, all parts of self can be nurtured, valued, and integrated by facilitating a safe
relationship
with the body and nervous system.
Life's motion can feel intense and demanding, seeming to move at a pace beyond one's stride, resulting in chronic stress, increased anxiety and fear, and for some, chronic pain. Throughout this motion, maintaining relationships and self-care can feel challenging. Connecting with another human can be one of the safest ways to become grounded and encounter what is asking for acknowledgment and care. I believe the therapeutic
relationship
and environment has immense potential to provide a safe container for what is felt to be honored and explored, allowing any fear that arrives to be transformed into intentional forward movement.

My focus is in working with clients who live in some way that is outside of a societal expectation or norm. My style is rooted in the idea of collective liberation, and my clients are queer folx, trans folx, changemakers and activists, those living with chronic illness, survivors of relational and systemic trauma; those with body types, cultural identities, family or
relationship
structures that differ from those represented frequently or positively in mainstream media.

I work with adults and adolescents presenting with a variety of mental health and
relationship
issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, health problems, and other crises that may accompany life.
As a clinical psychologist I strive to provide a transformative experience that not only resolves the symptoms and issues that brought you to treatment, but also develops deeper insight and awareness that promotes lasting change. I work to collaborate with you to develop a plan for continued growth that reflects your life-long plans, goals, and unmet needs. To that end, I strive to facilitate an experience for you of change in those aspects of your life that are most meaningful to you, including your inner world, relationships, spiritual beliefs, work life and world views.

Normal is a setting on a dryer. We are all unique and valid individuals with vast minds. We all have different situations and I believe in using those pieces to heal and build strength. While I specialize in trauma, addiction, and mood, our struggles are usually not that one note or simple. I focus on all aspects of who you and where you want to be, building a strong
relationship
based on empathy, trust and non judgement. Life is rough, we lose sight of our way, stop seeing the beauty, forget who we are, feel stuck or changed. It takes courage to be vulnerable and reality is we are imperfectly perfect.

Research shows that the
relationship
between client and counselor is an important factor for successful therapy outcomes.
My clients are adults and adolescents who tend to identify themselves as highly sensitive, perfectionistic, and self-critical. They often feel intense emotions and have active minds that always seem to be "on". Using strengths-based, solution-focused, and mindfulness approaches, I help individuals learn to step back and notice their thoughts and feelings rather than be controlled by them. In addition to alleviating the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma, these skills allow people to connect with their values and pursue what's important to them.

been shaken by an affair? Are you feeling alone, overwhelmed, confused? Do you worry and wonder if you and your

I take a systemic approach when working with individuals,
couples
and families.
Making the choice to engage in therapy is a good step in the right direction. It can often times make you feel overwhelmed and vulnerable. Do you find yourself struggling with connecting or maintaining healthy relationships or struggling with anxiety, depression, communication or life transitions? Perhaps you struggle with thinking about past experiences and how they may be impacting your life today.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
