Asking for help is hard, but it’s when we feel heard, seen, and understood, that healing and growth are possible. I am here to create a safe space for you, or you and your partner (s), to explore and challenge yourself in pursuit of greater truth and authenticity. By addressing troubling thoughts and feelings, self-sabotaging behaviors, and traumas, life can be made more manageable, productive, and fulfilling. Feelings such as grief, shame, anxiety, sadness, and anger often signal that something needs to change. Listening to and working with these feelings can move us forward. Allow me to help.

Therapy can be helpful to deal with many of life's challenges - feeling depressed or anxious, sleep difficulties, relationship troubles, dissatisfaction with work, and identity issues, just to name a few.
I enjoy working to celebrate the individualism and uniqueness of each client. I have a special interest in diversity and am passionate about supporting clients who may be struggling with challenges related to immigration status, sexual orientation/gender identity, racial and cultural identity, etc. My treatment approach uses characteristics of trauma informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and behavioral activation.

My goal is to help clients and couples author a story that highlights their innate strengths and skills.
I am a firm believer in the power of the stories that we tell about ourselves and our experiences. These stories inform our worldview, how we interact with others, and how we view ourselves. I am passionate helping clients working through trauma, anxiety, depression, and other concerns that make it difficult to cope on their own. Using exploration, reflection, and evaluation, I aim to help clients uncover their strengths, develop coping skills, and discover outside supports. My approach to marriage and couples counseling is focused on assessing and building communication skills to help restore the emotional bond in the relationship .

I also work with same- and opposite-sex couples seeking to address a variety of problems and goals, including: relationship difficulties; conflict; lack of intimacy/feeling disconnected; infidelity, separation, divorce; disagreements about values, important life decisions, parenting style; improving communication; building a strong, loving relationship ; adjusting to life events (marriage, cohabitation, child birth, etc.
My approach to psychotherapy is focused on building a strong and collaborative relationship with you, the client, working with you to provide immediate symptom relief and make sustainable change. My style is warm, curious, and engaged. I provide a safe and confidential space for you to share your story. I am influenced by the psychodynamic tradition, focusing on how you relate to yourself and others. As you begin to feel understood, accepted, and more deeply known in therapy, a trusting therapeutic relationship develops. This results in greater self-understanding and leads to change, including immediate symptom relief and longer-term transformation.

Research shows that the relationship between client and counselor is an important factor for successful therapy outcomes.
My clients are adults and adolescents who tend to identify themselves as highly sensitive, perfectionistic, and self-critical. They often feel intense emotions and have active minds that always seem to be "on". Using strengths-based, solution-focused, and mindfulness approaches, I help individuals learn to step back and notice their thoughts and feelings rather than be controlled by them. In addition to alleviating the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma, these skills allow people to connect with their values and pursue what's important to them.

When we focus on what is happening — human to human — in the therapy space, we can better understand our struggles, our relationship with ourselves, and our relationship with others.
I am passionate about helping those who are introspective, emotionally-inclined, and curious. I care about helping clients move beyond the surface in therapy to reach a deeper level of truth that they haven't yet spoken. Too often, therapy glosses over the fact that, at times, life is painful and messy. As much as we might want to avoid this, I strive to remind clients that we are better off trying to embrace this, and we might be surprised by what comes from doing so.

You deserve to have that close, connected relationship you always dreamed of.
Look, relationships are hard. Dating and finding somebody that gets you is hard enough, and then maintaining that relationship is a lot of work. Throw in a job, maybe some kids and pets, and somehow time to get to the gym and make a healthy meal? Crazy hard. Despite being insightful, motivated, and loving... relationships are hard. For everyone. Are you tired of fighting and having to walk on eggshells? Maybe you’re missing the connection, love, and affection you once felt.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
