Many of us struggle daily with issues like anxiety, stress, depression, anger or feeling isolated and alone. We may feel stuck and ashamed at our inability to just feel "better" or achieve our goals. This internal suffering is so common, but the good news is we all possess an internal capacity for change. It hurts to feel "stuck", but making changes can also be hard to do on our own. I have years of experience working with folks with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, addiction, stress and other personal challenges. I am specially trained and committed to supporting clients in the LGBTQ+ community and immigrant populations.

David believes in not only helping the individual facing challenges, but helping that person also build their supports that are around them outside of session. David is a military veteran who knows the struggle of being trauma informed and also person-centered in care. What works for one, doesn't always work for the other. David believes in treating the person and not the diagnosis because we are not what the words say we are!

It is no light matter deciding to seek therapy. To look with someone at what is painful. To find hope, relief, and perspective, and to grow through this. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with people in a variety of settings, including academic medical hospitals, the VA, college counseling, and a community mental health center on an American Indian Reservation. I have extensive experience helping individuals with anxiety, depression, chronic pain, PTSD, and life transitions. No matter what brings you to therapy, my goal is to provide a safe, welcoming space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered.

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming-especially if you've been carrying a lot for a long time. I believe therapy should be a place where you feel safe, respected, and genuinely understood. Imagine: walking into a space, taking a deep breath and sinking into a couch to talk about what is on your mind with no fear of judgment. Together, we slow things down and get curious about what your nervous system has learned, and how we can gently support it towards healing.

Therapy isn't for the weak. It requires dedication, vulnerability, self-reflection, and perseverance. There will be times it feels like things are getting worse, and times where you feel uncomfortable and want to quit. These are the times I want to sit with you. I want to be there as you gain insight into yourself and what you need to heal and be mentally well. I want to facilitate confidence in the discomfort, leaning into the unknown, trusting that it will help you grow in the ways necessary for measurable change. We can do that together. Therapy is not easy, but it is worth it. And so are you.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists
How does cognitive processing therapy work?
A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?
CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?
A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
