I have worked with adolescents and
children
for the past 6 years, and am currently seeing adult clients at this time as well!.
I take a person-centered, strengths-based approach to meet clients where they are and address what they feel is impacting their lives the most. I believe building a strong relationship is the foundation of therapy. I think it is important to maintain a non-judgmental stance and instead look through a lens of curiosity throughout life, and especially in therapy. The thing I love most about being a therapist is watching my clients grow and having the opportunity to be part of their journey. I pride myself on the passion I have for what I do, and how that translates into my ability to advocate for my clients.

Growing up can be tough. Your
child
is trying to learn how to navigate relationships at school and home while figuring out who they are and their place in the world. When dealing with stress and difficult situations, your
child
can feel alone, as though no one understands them or can relate to what they are going through. Because of their age, your
child
may not have the vocabulary to express the complex thoughts and feelings they are experiencing. As a result, they may shut others out or seem as though they don’t want help. However, the truth may be that they do not know what kind of help they need or how to ask for it.

Trying to support a
child
who may be acting out at school, at home, or withdrawing from those around them can be frustrating & scary.
Children
and adolescents often struggle verbalizing their feelings which may lead to problems in school, difficulties at home, or in developing relationships. My clients are often experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, struggling in school, or developing appropriate social skills. In providing a safe space to explore and express themselves through art making, I support clients in developing positive coping skills, building confidence, and identifying their strengths within the context of a therapeutic relationship.

My experience consists of working with adolescents,
children
, and adults with various mental health issues in outpatient, inpatient, and residential settings, with extensive experience treating trauma-related issues.
I believe that creating art serves as communication between our inner and outer worlds. It is a natural form of expression that can bring about healing and recovery. I am deeply committed to helping people find meaning and purpose in their lives. Through the creative process, I help clients discover their strengths and overcome feelings of emptiness and hopelessness. As the founder of Milwaukee Art Therapy Collective, I have worked to create an art studio that sparks creativity and to provide a nurturing therapeutic space for hope and healing.

“Hope is the thing with feathers – That perches in the soul – And sings the tune without the words-and never stops at all.” Emily Dickinson. Hope begins the journey for each of us to become the person we want to be. With positive unconditional regard and someone who listens, we humans naturally gravitate to feel comfort in who we are. We move toward health, self discovery, and compassion for ourselves and others. I’m passionate about being part of each person’s journey, focusing on each individual’s strengths and resilience. I have spent my career specializing in
child
/adolescent therapy, but enjoy working with people of all ages! I have great interest in working with individuals with PTSD, and teens/adults who cope with pain using alcohol, drugs or self-harm.
A therapist has three jobs: to listen, to teach and to instill hope. I'd be grateful for the opportunity to do those things for you. I consider myself a "guardian of potential"-I see people beyond the problems that bring them to my office and for who they really are. I have the ability to "reach the unreachable". You may be nervous about trying therapy for the first time, or you may have had bad experiences in the past, but I believe in the power of human connection and I believe you no longer have to live in the pain or circumstances you've been in. The time for change has arrived!

With an extensive background in working with
children
and families in both educational and mental health settings, I have had the privilege of being witness to many personal stories.
As a counselor, I so value the healing potential of human connection. Emotion and suffering are natural reactions to life, and the ability to sit with and process life’s challenges with another person can be a gift. Sharing moments of loss, shame, joy, and disappointment can lead to stronger self-acceptance and connection with others. I strive to be welcoming, open, and empathetic to all clients who walk through the door.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
