My practice is half children and half adults. Having fostered and adopted myself, I am particularly skilled to assist foster and adoptive family needs. I also use play, expressive arts, sand tray and music to assist in therapy. Clients with thought disorders, mood disorders, anxiety and depression are particularly welcome. I am located in the east side of Milwaukee near the lake.

You feel burdened, like you’re carrying a refrigerator on your back through a land mine- almost anything or anyone could set you off. You hoped Life would be more peaceful, but as time goes on, your anxiety remains deep. Stress plants itself in your bones and reverberates through your whole body. It’s the same, no matter what you try. The voice of failure reverberates in your head. “You won’t make it, so why even try?” It all feels so hopeless.

The good traits of a therapist include the ability to empathize with an individual's need or problem. I believe possessing effective listening skill is number one in providing a supportive nonjudgmental space for clients. I have been providing counseling and coaching services for many years and have yet to tire of the opportunity to connect with individuals on a soulful level. I begin my day asking how I can be of maximum service to God and others.

Are you serious about change? Change is often different than managing symptoms such as anxiety and depression. Symptoms let us know there is an issue but getting to the root is vital for long term success and change. Regulating your emotions, having good relationships, understanding your patterns and self, processing trauma, and understanding what pulls you forward in life is crucial to living a fulfilled and purposeful life. I love to work with curious and motivated clients looking to change and understand their human experience.

If you feel down, stuck, or don't know how to move forward, it can help to find professional support—someone in your corner, to help you get your bearings again and find your way through the tough times. As a solution-focused and strengths-based therapist, I work with clients to understand their past, clarify their present, and support their goals moving forward, even through life’s hardest situations. I work with clients experiencing the effects of trauma using EMDR and mindfulness, targeting and reworking core beliefs to move individuals and couples forward in their relationships with themselves and others.

Stories have power. They can shape the way we see the world, how we interact with others, and how we see and treat ourselves, and these can have a great impact on our physical and mental well-being. As an Art Therapist and Counselor, it is my goal to listen and be present for your stories and work with you to unpack their meaning. I work primarily with children, adolescents, and teens, but have worked with individuals across the life span, including those with diverse physical and neuro backgrounds. Regardless of who I am working with, I strive to be strengths-based, trauma-informed, and resilience-focused.

Adlerian Therapists

How does Adlerian psychology work?

In the framework of Adlerian therapy, people are motivated by a sense of belonging and community, which drives them to surmount feelings of inferiority so as to contribute to their society; fulfilling these desires can help people flourish. Adlerian therapy proceeds in four stages—engagement, assessment, insight, and reorientation—in an overall effort to understand the client’s past and to achieve their present-day humanistic goals.

Is Adlerian therapy humanistic?

Yes, Adlerian psychology is humanistic; it focuses on the whole person, emphasizes their strengths rather than just their symptoms, and centers them in determining how they can grow and flourish. This school of thought informed the work of Abraham Maslow, who went on to develop humanistic psychology.

How long does Adlerian therapy take?

Adlerian therapy is a short-term, goal-oriented form of therapy that takes around 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Of course, some people may be in therapy for a shorter or longer time frame; length depends on the individual and the problem or condition they wish to treat. Clients can ask their therapist about the timeline for treatment before they begin and check in periodically to ensure that they’re on the same page in terms of progress.

Is Adlerian therapy evidence based?

There is not as much evidence to support the effectiveness of Adlerian therapy as there is for other types of therapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. But Adlerian therapy may be the right therapy for some people—whether they’re seeking to treat mental disorders or achieve self-growth—especially those looking for a holistic approach that emphasizes relationships, community, self-worth, and purpose.
