Therapy looks different for everyone, because everyone comes into therapy with different needs. In general, therapy works by us having lots of (often weekly, sometimes more often, just shy of an hour-long) conversations in which we get to know your mind and heart to help you find answers to what you are struggling with. To get to know you better, I will encourage you to share with me thoughts, emotions, images… everything that comes to your mind. Nothing is off limits, and the hardest or most awkward things to talk about can yield the biggest benefits.

The core of my work is creating a safe space where clients can feel heard, respected, and understood. A full and satisfying life is unique to each person; I will collaborate with you as you move toward the life you want to live. Understanding each client's culture, identities, and worldview is central to my approach. Not only is it important to deeply understand you as an individual, but also to explore how factors in the wider environment either promote your well being or intensify your distress. A holistic approach to wellness involves the individual, their relationships, and their wider world.

Is there a part of you that you don’t quite understand—something that feels like it’s holding you back or leading to painful, repeating patterns in your life? You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, feeling unfulfilled, or a sense of frustration about not being able to move forward despite your best efforts. Many people who come to therapy have tried everything they can think of to feel better. When things don’t change, it can feel discouraging or confusing. I believe these struggles often have roots in ways of thinking and relating to ourselves and others. These patterns can develop over time and we may be unaware of them.

I specialize in trauma therapy for adults experiencing PTSD, complex trauma, attachment wounds, childhood trauma, anxiety, dissociation, and chronic emotional overwhelm. Using EMDR, CPT, attachment-focused therapy, and nervous-system-informed approaches, I help clients process painful experiences in a way that feels steady, grounded, and manageable. Many people worry that trauma therapy will feel too intense or destabilizing. Therapy can move at a pace that supports safety and stability, with tools to help manage anxiety, shutdown, emotional flooding, and other trauma responses along the way.

Beginning therapy can often be difficult and may carry a host of fears, uncertainties, and challenges. I believe that it can also be a life changing journey that can help explore those difficult pieces and peel those layers that have kept us from being our authentic selves. My clients are often young adults, parents, those starting a new phase in their life, or anyone navigating the process of individuation and creating change. My clients are often looking to create healthy boundaries and relationships with themselves and others. Many are healing from past trauma, toxic relationships, or entering a new phase in life.

As a therapist, I rely heavily on the power of the therapeutic relationship, viewing this relationship as the foundation for safety in working with individuals and their internal systems. Our work together develops insight into one's own internal landscape and explores the wounds that create difficult emotions, thoughts and patterns in day to day life. Working together, such processing fosters a relationship with oneself in a way that goes beyond their past.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
