I have training in Christian counseling, systematic and biblical theology.
Hi, I am John Morrell. My counseling focus is with adults who want to work on a wide variety of problems some of these include depression, anxiety, insomnia and sleep disorders, attention problems, anger management and pain management. When I work with clients I seek to provide the support and direction they need to identify their goals. Then we work together to discover and change core beliefs, thinking, behavior and emotions so they can accomplish their life goals. I also talk with clients about their spiritual lives, as they have an interest how faith relates to healthy living.

Being a child, teen or young adult is hard. And, yes it is hard being a parent, too. I believe that working collaboratively with young people and their families is necessary for lasting positive change. I have witnessed how therapy can be a powerful way to learn more about yourself, resolve conflict, and develop and practice life skills. With the client, we will explore needs, motivation for change, and set goals that are achievable and desirable. This will happen in an authentic, safe, affirming way that is moving toward wellness and hope.

My therapeutic philosophy is that it's not what is wrong with you but what happened to you. I believe that symptoms like anxiety and depression are not signs of weakness but messages to our mind and body telling us that something is not right and needs to be addressed. Maladaptive ways of coping may have once served us by dulling stress or pain but are not working any more, and so we have to learn new, healthier, more adaptive coping skills. I believe both the body and mind work together and are ultimately designed to survive, heal and thrive. Sometimes we just need understanding, validation and support to navigate the process.

The wheels are spinning – in your head and your life. Overthinking, indecisiveness, and fear of making mistakes keep your mind and body on edge. It’s overwhelming – to the point that you feel beat up and defeated most of the time. It also makes you feel like you’re an imposter – a fraud. You know you have talents and that God put you on this earth for a reason, but it feels hidden and elusive. And even if you knew what it was, you wonder if you would ever measure up or be good enough. “Maybe I’m just broken” is a familiar refrain. If only you knew what to do or had someone to guide you, perhaps things would be different.

An Ideal client is one that is willing to take the first step in reaching out for the help they believe they need. Sometimes making that initial call is the most difficult, which makes it one of the most important steps. The purpose for therapy is to assist the client in meeting their desired goals. This can be done by having open and honest conversations. Successful therapy is not done over night, but it takes time and the effort of the client and therapist to reach those desired goals. Clients has the right to confidentiality and a therapist that cares.
