Our minds condition the quality of every moment of our lives—therapy is uniquely suited to positively engaging with our minds. And of course, our minds are not just our minds; they are our bodies, our relationships, our cultures, our society, our work, our past, our future, our imagination, as well as our thoughts and feelings. Therapy can interface with all of these parts of us, and help us to integrate them, nourishing our life.

The holistic and
somatic
training I have received allows me to assist clients in deepening their understanding of the mind-body connection and develop skills they can use in daily life to decrease symptoms of concern.
It is common to develop unhealthy patterns in thoughts and behaviors, especially after difficult experiences. Without conscious change, these patterns can increase in intensity, as a reminder of unresolved emotions and experiences. I believe we all hold unique qualities, characteristics and beliefs, that make us unlike anyone else. I work with clients to identify and cultivate their innate strengths and resources and to inspire positive changes towards a more balanced and meaningful life. I utilize psycho-education, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral therapy to teach and implement positive coping strategies for improved wellness.

My approach uses attachment-based &
somatic
experiences, including mindfulness and understanding the neuroscience behind anxiety, fear & anger.
Are you looking for something different when it comes to therapy? I believe therapy can be more relaxed & not always serious & "stuffy". My goal is for you to have an experience of comfort and encouragement while also working through difficult situations and feelings. We talk about your concerns but also about your strengths & looking at things from different perspectives. During these conversations, we can laugh about some things, have a cup of coffee/tea together and color a picture. I work hard to provide a positive, accepting and non-judgmental environment where you feel safe to talk about your reality and truth.

Clients often come to see me when they feel lost, stuck, or overwhelmed. I strive to help clients identify and explore the foundation of a challenge or issue so that they can effectively (and often quickly) achieve deep and lasting change. My work is rooted in my belief that our bodies and minds are designed to heal, and we can get stuck when those innate processes are interrupted or ignored. I use an integrative approach to help strengthen the client's inherent wisdom and ability to heal, with an emphasis on self-awareness, skill-building, and the mind-body connection.

Providing virtual sessions throughout the entire state of WI, I help to promote coping with the stress and uncertainty of many life situations, including but not limited to hospitalization, illness/diagnosis, trauma, loss, and change. As a patient, we may want someone to share our reality with; as a parent we may want someone to brainstorm ways to communicate difficult subjects to our kids/teens; as a caregiver/professional we may want to process. I strive to create a confidential and judgement-free space where you will feel supported and know it's okay to bring your authentic self.

There IS hope to feel better. If you're a woman who is looking for help healing from Trauma, let's work together to find root cause of your discomfort and co-creating overall stability and a space for healing. My Illuminate Blueprint goes beyond traditional "talk therapy" and integrates science-based strategies of EMDR, Trauma Tapping Technique, Mindfulness and Trauma Sensitive Yoga to help you feel better faster. As a woman herself who has done the internal work through therapy on her own mental health and trauma, I get how hard it can be to heal. I offer individual traditional therapy, EMDR 3-hour intensives and groups.

I support adult couples of all varieties. Most of the couples I see have busy lives. They are smart and capable. They can usually figure things out themselves, but feel stuck about how to improve their relationship which doesn't feel good. Clients who have the greatest success in working with me have these things in common: 1. Courage to believe things can be better. 2. Readiness to embrace change. 3. Willingness to acknowledge their own part in the dynamics, and to learn new ways of being in relationship.

Many people ask me, "Why would I want to feel my feelings?” Whether you are constantly staring at a screen, filling every space on your calendar to avoid being alone with your thoughts, putting on a new mask for every person you encounter, or using alcohol as "social lubricant" to quiet the noise, many of us have mastered the art of avoidance. Some of us neatly tuck our feelings away, trading our emotions for a nicely organized life with lots of explanations and justifications, while others stuff the jumbled up mess under the bed.

Do you sense that you are "just getting by" in life? Do you feel weighed down by a sadness, restricted by anxieties, or just a sense of detachment and numbness? Are you concerned about a relationship or lack thereof? Or perhaps there are old, unattended wounds still hurting from long-ago. Buddhism reminds us that suffering is universal, but not necessary, and that it emerges from a disconnection from our essential nature. Therapy with me uses mindfulness practices and trauma-informed therapy (EMDR) to reconnect with that nature and inquire into the barriers that resist such connection to ourselves and others.

We love to collaborate with clients to help them draw from their own expertise, build on their own positive values, discover their own skills, and use these new tools to work through conflicts and hardships. We are systems therapist. What that means is: we like to approach problems that people have within the context of social, political and cultural storylines that influence the way we view ourselves and our own personal stories. We use this same approach in family therapy to seek ways to change the way the family system works rather than trying to "fix" a specific family member.

Therapy is effective when the therapist is guiding the client down a path that the therapist has already successfully completed. My heightened emotional sensitivity to myself and the world surrounding me led me on a journey of self-discovery where I learned to resolve my personal losses and access my power and intuition. Through the lessons of my resolved cycles of suffering, I have found consistent access to my emotional maturity and intuitive wisdom: Giving me the gift of living in the flow of life. Once I became grounded in the depth & flow of my being, I felt called to guide others who are on a similar journey.

It is not uncommon for people to talk and think their way 'better'. They have made sense of their problems and wish to 'just move on'. However, they can't seem to rid themselves of the emotional turmoil and physical pain that remains. My clients say to me, 'I just want to move on but my anxiety, depression, trauma, bad habits, pain, guilt, shame, family members...just won't let me'.

I incorporate EMDR,
somatic
, and attachment therapies in my work, and am grounded in an understanding of how trauma and oppression impact the nervous system and the body.
Do you feel overwhelmed by emotions or physical symptoms, such as hopelessness, pain, or panic? Does the thought of being present with your body feel uncomfortable or even scary? In my work, I help folks of all backgrounds find a sense of safety in their body after experiences of trauma, chronic pain, and body-based oppression (transphobia, anti-fat bias, ableism, racism, etc.). We’ll work together to understand and befriend your nervous system and build upon experiences of safety and connection to promote healing and emotional well-being.

How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
