I especially enjoy using EMDR because it is faster than traditional "talk therapy
Sometimes a change in life circumstances can send any one of us on an unexpected "detour" of sorts - maybe it's a new medical diagnosis, a relationship ending, a change in job status, death & loss, or experiencing how the choices of others alters your life. Othertimes it's wanting to stop repeating your own life patterns which subtract from your quality of life. No matter what leads to seeking out change at this time, New Insights Counseling is here to offer guidance in creating the next steps in life.

I have several methods that we can utilize in our counseling sessions such as; EMDR, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT and others.
My motivation working with clients is to assist them to live their best life. Whether you are dealing with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, I want to work with you to lessen the amount of energy you are using to cope. They take so much of our energy that they leave us with little to put toward living our best life. It becomes a vicious cycle that seems we can't break, untreated they can take over our lives. Working together we can lessen their effect on our daily lives and have energy to focus on the good in our life.

I integrate several evidence-based treatments, like CBT, EMDR Therapy and Trauma Sensitive Yoga to help you heal and develop tools that will melt away the tension and help you more fully believe those rational, logical thoughts that your anxious mind loves to challenge.
Are stress, worry or anxiety getting in the way of living your best life? Do you find yourself constantly trying to plan for every possible scenario? It’s hard to get excited about anything anymore, as you find your mind jumping to the worst case scenario. You’re tired, overwhelmed, and struggling to find the energy to care for the people around you, let alone yourself. You try to tell yourself everything will be okay, convince yourself that the anxious thoughts aren’t true, and yet you’re still struggling. Maybe you’re starting to wonder if it’s even possible to ever live a life free of the weight of your worries.

I integrate EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) to support nervous system regulation, healing, and a more grounded sense of self.
Healing from trauma, anxiety, or the weight of past experiences can feel overwhelming at times. You may be someone who is motivated to feel better but unsure how to begin. It’s my goal to create a calm, supportive space to help you explore what’s no longer working and to gently reconnect with the parts of you that may feel lost, hurt, or stuck. I work with adults who are ready to understand themselves more deeply and gently untangle what’s been getting in their way. Many of the people I support identify as highly sensitive, and have histories of trauma or relational wounding.

At Heartwood Counseling, I have developed skill-sets designed to relieve the pressure of PTSD, including EMDR.

I strive to bring all of the above to my clientele. I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist, with a family of my own. As I bring my practical experience of marriage (and raising kids) to my practice, I am continually inspired by the courage and open-heartedness of my clients; as we set out, co-conspiring toward change and healing. I use a combination of talk therapies and EMDR to shift from negative thoughts and responses to more positive adaptive beliefs and behaviors.
Life altering experiences can cause us to feel physically and emotionally unsafe leading us to ruminate on the past, overthink and worry about the future, and expect something bad to happen. Daily tasks can become difficult, and sometimes talking feels like it makes things worse. Imagine feeling secure, safe, and enjoying every day things without worrying about what’s next. It is possible to find a way to accept things as they are, reconnect with the people you care about, and enjoy the things that mean the most to you. Please note I currently only have evening availability.

I most often use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy ( EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), but am trained in other modalities.
Seeking out therapy can feel daunting. My work as a therapist is motivated by the understanding that everyone has skills to develop, past hurts to heal, and a strong side of them that has helped them through very difficult times. Everyone could use a supportive environment to grow.

Usually, with EMDR therapy we can see some resolve in 3 to 12 sessions.
Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, a challenging relationship, loss of a sense of self that affects your day-to-day life, relationships, ability to function, your work? Do you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, frustrated, by what it means to live up to someone else's standards, just getting through the day, answering emails, texts or calls, the thought that there's no light at the end of the tunnel? Do you question how life could be better? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, uncertain about overcoming a difficult relationship, finding their place in life, moving through past traumas, etc...

I am a provider of professional counseling services, utilizing EMDR therapy and traditional psychotherapy to help with whatever you choose to work on (trauma, PTSD, divorce, relationship issues, substance abuse/dependency, life changes/transitions, depression, anxiety, childhood issues, etc.).
Following this interest led me to study and train in EMDR therapy, which can be amazingly effective at resolving past issues, helping to leave the past in the past. I utilize traditional talk therapy as well, and use a variety of theoretical approaches, depending on client needs and desires.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
