My ideal client is someone who knows, deep down, that something has to shift. They may not have all the answers (yet), but they’re done dancing in circles — ready to break old patterns, call themselves out (with love), and lean into real, lasting change. Whether they’re 19 or 79, single and soul-searching or in a relationship that feels more like a roommate situation than a romance, they’re craving clarity, connection, and that click — the internal shift that changes everything. They’re open-minded but want grounded tools. They’re not here for fluff — they want the truth, even if it stings a little (or a lot).

Sometimes a change in life circumstances can send any one of us on an unexpected "detour" of sorts - maybe it's a new medical diagnosis, a relationship ending, a change in job status, death & loss, or experiencing how the choices of others alters your life. No matter what leads to seeking out change at this time, New Insights Counseling is here to offer guidance in creating the next steps in life.

I am trained in working with a wide variety of individuals and challenges and have a special interest in working with individuals struggling with anxiety, burnout, and women's health issues (pregnancy & post-partum, PMDD, peri-menopause & menopause).
Like nature, we ebb and flow through different seasons in life. While some seasons of life can feel overwhelming, these are often the times when we can experience the most growth. Therapy can be a wonderful tool to help individuals seek personal growth, overcome struggle, and thrive in life.

My strengths are in treating anxiety, depression, complex trauma, grief, and ADHD/neurodivergence.
During the therapeutic process we explore your story at your pace. Sometimes we can just talk about it, and sometimes we can work on coping skills and engage in trauma informed therapy interventions - it depends on what you need. Usually people just want to talk, and we can pull in some evidence based therapy modalities and place it where it fits.

Any of these can create anxiety, depression and a host of other symptoms.
What are you looking for in a therapist? A supportive, trusted voice? An empathetic ear? A sense of humor? Someone who's therapy space creates both safety...and confidence? I strive to bring all of the above to my clientele. I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist, with a family of my own. As I bring my practical experience of marriage (and raising kids) to my practice, I am continually inspired by the courage and open-heartedness of my clients; as we set out, co-conspiring toward change and healing. Perhaps feelings of dread, anxiety, and cynicism crop up more than anything resembling engagement.
I focus on all things mental health as it relates to one's work and career, including how we perform, how we engage, and how we pursue fulfillment and satisfaction. The reality is many of us spend the great majority of our adult lives on what we do for work. It defines us in a big way. It influences our values, our view of the world, and the people in it.

Life altering experiences can cause us to feel physically and emotionally unsafe leading us to ruminate on the past, overthink and worry about the future, and expect something bad to happen.
I don’t believe that we need to talk through every detail to achieve healing. I use a combination of talk therapies and EMDR to shift from negative thoughts and responses to more positive adaptive beliefs and behaviors. I support healing by encouraging autonomy, helping you feel more present, even tempered and free from the things that weigh you down.

I most often work with clients who are dealing with relationship and communication issues, anxiety, non-monogamy/opening their relationships, chronic illness and disability, queerness, and kink/BDSM.
Are you feeling like it’s hard to authentically be yourself or connect with others? As a relational therapist, I recognize that our connections are the basis of both the greatest struggles and the greatest rewards we can know as humans. I specialize in work with couples, families, and individuals who have "non-traditional" relationships and sexualities. My work with clients is open and collaborative, often using narrative therapy, EFT/attachment theory, and systems theory to help people flesh out their sense of identity and strengths. You can expect transparency, a culturally-attuned lens, and a little humor in therapy with me!

I am a psychologist with 4 specialty areas: 1) treating ADHD in adolescents and adults, and the anxiety, depression, and emotion regulation difficulties that often accompany ADHD; 2) anxiety disorders, more broadly; 3) existential concerns, including lack of fulfillment, values and meaning-making, and disconnection from self- and others; and 4) chronic pain.
I draw primarily from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). Our time together will be conceptual and practical: we will work together to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, help you feel better, and live a life that feels more values-based and self-directed.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
