While asking for help can be a frightening experience, it doesn't have to be. I strive to take the frightening out of therapy, and utilize empowering strategies to help individuals become the very best they can be. My professional experience involves working with teens, adults, and couples. I have experience with individuals working through traumas such as being victims of rape, incest, bullying, and abuse. I also work with military personnel, assisting through traumas such as PTSD, and assisting with reintegration.

You believe staying stuck where you are may destroy you, and you may be right.

Sometimes, we get stuck. Stuck in difficult emotions or relationships—stuck in what the world says is possible for us. I want to help you get unstuck. By centering your experiences and sharing evidence-based strategies, I empower you to use your strengths and life experiences to work against problems that feel inescapable. I don’t want to prescribe you with what I think makes a good life—I want you to live a fulfilling life that fits your values.

Change can be hard. It can be scary, overwhelming, and can produce fears. It is different than what we know, different than what things are like today. Change happens no matter what; it is the one constant that we all experience.

I love my work: helping individuals and couples solve problems, grow and flourish. We grow by learning mastery; to me this means being competent in dealing with yourself and the outside world. I help clients do this by gaining self-knowledge and learning the skills necessary to be empowered to reach their goals and improve their most important relationships. Since starting my practice in 1983 I have been dedicated to helping clients achieve mastery. I take a very active role, and do "what works" for each client, using a variety of treatment approaches.

Life is full of challenges and I want to help you navigate these. You may have suffered significant loss, acute or chronic health condition, or stressors in your relationship(s), work, or school. Whatever brings you to seek therapy, I work with my patients, where they are at, so you can feel better and start thriving.

I believe that everyone has the capacity to grow and change. I work with families and couples who may be questioning their connection to one another, and with individuals who feel stuck, unmotivated, or afraid. As a family therapist, I encourage people to explore how the different systems they are a part of impact the quality of their lives. How does their family function? Their place of work? Their culture? Together we explore how making changes in ourselves impacts our relationships to these different systems. We change our world by changing our relationship to it.

I have provided clinical services in a number of settings including college/university counseling centers, community mental health clinics, and in private practice. My own research and scholarly interests focus on LGBTQ issues, clinical supervision, supporting underrepresented college students, and current issues in training mental health clinicians. I am a generalist by training and work with clients with a variety of presenting concerns. I enjoy developing relationships with my clients in longer term therapy but often work within briefer treatments as well. I am flexible in my approach to help my clients achieve their goals.

As a bilingual, bicultural individual, and former police officer, I can understand the difficulty facing trauma, daily challenges, and grief. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, compassion, and meeting you at your comfort level. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage as you are stepping into uncomfortable territory. I am here to support, guide, and empower you through this journey. As a systemic therapist, not only do I see you as an individual but every facet in your life, how they can affect you, and how we can influence them to best achieve your therapy goals.

I am especially interested in working with trauma, dissociative tendencies, anxiety, depression, LGBTQ+ populations, identity exploration, attachment, feelings of stuck-ness, and more!

I aim to provide a warm space to help you feel at ease while you work through the toughest areas of your life.

My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe, helpful and non-judgmental atmosphere in which to explore the issues creating challenges for individuals. Everyone has their own unique story to tell with victories and hurdles. Through our interaction we can identify and understand your strengths and create tools enabling you to understand and work through challenges. As a professional I feel confident providing a positive non-judgmental space which we can create a collaborative relationship to navigate life's ups and downs.

For the past 20 years, I have worked with families, couples, adults, and adolescents. Using cognitive-behavioral theory with narrative techniques, I help empower clients to explore areas within their lives that present challenges and inhibit change, and assist them with finding solutions that will work for them. However, I also believe that the therapeutic relationship is a vital component within any program, which means that I believe that any work needs to be collaborative between myself and my clients. I am certified to deliver trauma-focused treatments as well as providing services to help manage stress and anxiety.

When things feel overwhelming it is sometimes hard to see a path forward. I believe that anyone can make changes in their lives if they want to and are encouraged by a strong sense of hope, which I make every effort to provide. I work collaboratively, in a non-judgmental, client-centered, creative, accepting space. As a family systems therapist, I recognize how much that system influences one's perspectives and sometimes, struggles.
