In addition to my degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, I have also done trainings in Gottman Method, EMDR, grief, trauma, and first responder/veteran populations.
Do you struggle with the ripple effects caused by trauma and grief? Do you feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and frustrated by the cards you've been dealt? Do you question if your relationships and well-being could be better? Now more than ever, people are feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about how to manage their lives, careers, and relationships. Ignoring or avoiding your needs can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. I don't believe life should be that hard.

I am passionate about helping couples feel happier in their marriage or relationship.
Despite being a professional by day, you have no idea how your life at home started feeling so chaotic and out of control. You and your partner don’t communicate like you used to and you certainly don’t have fun together anymore. Life is consumed by kids, sports, work, and errands. You aren’t having as much sex as you used to either. It feels like you lost yourself along the way and you don’t feel heard or understood by your partner when you try to talk. Things always end up in a fight. You’re exhausted and irritable and you feel alone. Friends and family mean well but they don’t get it. Not really. You need help.

I’m so glad you’re here! I believe we all have this inspired capacity to transform old feelings, behaviors, and patterns, and to rewire our brains to heal our hearts and relationships. I value integrative and holistic health, and enjoy incorporating the "whole-you" in session: your mind, body, heart & soul. We'll focus on healing the relationship in and amongst these parts of you, resulting in a more integrated feeling of a-well-and-good YOU. Therapy works best when we can allow the full human experience; humor, tears, anger, anxiety, joy... I won't shy away from the messiness and instead will encourage us to jump into the depth.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
