The Family Center is a community-based, systemic therapy outpatient mental health center and the primary training location for Edgewood College's Marriage and Family Therapy Graduate Program. We work both with Individuals and Relationships by providing a variety of services. We are LGBTQIA2S+ friendly and racial-justice minded. Our clients seek out services ranging from anxiety and depression, to alcohol and drug issues, to premarital/marital counseling and more. I bring to my work a lifetime of experience with many different people in many different circumstances. My early life experience as a registered nurse enriches me as a psychologist and provides me with a unique perspective in navigating the path towards healing. I believe that the psyche holds within itself the power to heal, but our egos often get in the way. Through the struggles of life, we can lose contact with our own deep well of inner wisdom. My focus is on helping individuals develop the tools to re-connect with their true vital selves and restore balance.

Since 1980 I have served those struggling with mental illness and personal problems in greater Milwaukee. I mainly help adults and older adults individually. Common topics I treat include depression, bipolar disorder, codependency, abuse, worry, grieving, chronic pain and health issues, and generally dealing with changes. Many I see experienced a long slow decline over time when that, "Straw that Broke the Camel's Back," landed. It became clear that things were just not working, and they need to try something different. That's when many of my people called me.

I have worked primarily with adults, older adults, and adolescents on issues of mental health that may be impacting one's ability to function in day-to-day life such as: depression, anxiety, other mood and thought disorders, suicidality (for individuals as well as those bereaved from suicide losses), interpersonal violence, LGBTQIA+ support, topics surrounding race and culture, hoarding (both individuals affected and their loved ones), criminal justice system-involvement, and trauma (individual, intergenerational, and community).

Hello! I am Lauren, and I am a clinical social worker licensed in the state of Wisconsin with over 6 years of social work experience. Previously, I have worked with clients who have experienced the following: anxiety, depression, panic disorder, bipolar, personality disorders, hoarding, dementia, autism, trauma, substance use disorders, suicidal ideations, and homelessness. Additionally, I have extensive experience working with geriatric clients 65+ and their caregivers experiencing stress and burnout. I have also worked with diverse multinational and LGBTQ+ clients.

Individual and group classes structured around education and experience. My focus is on helping others to gain insight about their mental health and to ensure they achieve personal growth.

I work with adults, especially those grappling with aging-related issues and the effects of cognitive changes in themselves or their loved ones. Our work together will be guided by your needs, desires, and goals. This might include working on challenging relationships, loss and grief, difficult life transitions, depression, anxiety, or critical life decisions. For individuals and families on the dementia journey, I offer support, education, validation, referrals, and assistance in planning. I am happy to consult with family members on an as-needed basis. I am also willing to meet at a client’s home as needed and appropriate.

After establishing a trusting relationship with my clients, I work towards identifying their issues followed by setting mutually-agreed upon attainable goals; one step at a time. I personally believe that the success gained by smaller increments builds confidence which eventually motivates us to achieve more. My clients set the pace; determining just how quickly or slowly they want to proceed. While some only need a few sessions a month, others prefer a more frequent schedule. As a tele-therapy provider I offer the security of a private, confidential “office” with the ease of “meeting” you anywhere at times convenient to you.

Donnie utilizes a solution-focused and client-centered approach that supports clients in setting and reaching personalized, obtainable goals that improve their overall wellbeing. He also draws on evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to teach clients coping skills and help them develop a better understanding of the connections between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. With almost ten years of clinical practice, Donnie has abundant experience integrating these therapy modalities in a manner best suited to meet the needs of each client.
