I started Olson Counseling Services because I saw a gap in traditional therapy—especially for women who have spent their lives feeling unseen, unheard, and emotionally exhausted. After years of working in various clinical settings, I realized that standard weekly therapy wasn’t always enough for the deep, transformative work my clients needed. Many women, particularly mothers, came to me struggling with shame, perfectionism, and the weight of expectations placed on them since childhood. They were overwhelmed, questioning their worth, and feeling stuck in cycles of self-doubt and burnout.

I believe in empowering people to grow and change, to help them climb out of mental anguish into a life of hope and meaning. I am passionate about my work, but conscientious, as well. I know how hard it is to engage in therapy, how much courage it takes, and that people do so out of a strong need to end their suffering and pain.

I work with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, neurodivergence, life transitions, and questions of identity or purpose.
You may feel like life has always been a little harder for you than it seems to be for other people. Despite everything you've tried, something still doesn't feel like it's fully clicking. You have a sense that there's a bigger picture, but understanding how all the pieces fit together - let alone knowing how to create lasting change - still feels out of reach. You're not just looking for relief from distress; you're looking for a deeper understanding of the patterns that shape your inner world. Together, we'll make sense of those connections and discover a way forward that feels authentic, practical, and true to who you are.

I have found hypnosis to be very helpful in successfully treating insomnia, weight loss, smoking cessation, test anxiety, chronic and injury-related pain, relaxation and anxiety reduction ( fear of flying).
I love my work: helping individuals and couples solve problems, grow and flourish. We grow by learning mastery; to me this means being competent in dealing with yourself and the outside world. I help clients do this by gaining self-knowledge and learning the skills necessary to be empowered to reach their goals and improve their most important relationships. Since starting my practice in 1983 I have been dedicated to helping clients achieve mastery. I take a very active role, and do "what works" for each client, using a variety of treatment approaches.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
