I founded my private practice on the principle of helping others create the life that they want. Often times that means resolving past trauma or issues that stand in our way. Change can be a difficult process, but with someone who understands how change occurs and the pitfalls that can hinder change it is possible. Every one deserves to be the person they want and I am here to help you on your journey of change and healing.

Treatment Objective: To use my experience and clinical skills to help each patient learn to recognize and develop specific strengths and strategies to improve his/her mental health. I work with each person to identify and understand how thinking, core beliefs, and behavior can work to create anxiety and negative moods. I use those same concepts to help a patient to identify specific strategies to change thinking, beliefs, and behavior and work to commit to making those changes intentionally.

“Hope is the thing with feathers – That perches in the soul – And sings the tune without the words-and never stops at all.” Emily Dickinson. Hope begins the journey for each of us to become the person we want to be. With positive unconditional regard and someone who listens, we humans naturally gravitate to feel comfort in who we are. We move toward health, self discovery, and compassion for ourselves and others. I’m passionate about being part of each person’s journey, focusing on each individual’s strengths and resilience. Clients also become comfortable in their bodies as healing our bodies facilitates mental and physical health.

My clients are adults and adolescents who tend to identify themselves as highly sensitive, perfectionistic, and self-critical. They often feel intense emotions and have active minds that always seem to be "on". Using strengths-based, solution-focused, and mindfulness approaches, I help individuals learn to step back and notice their thoughts and feelings rather than be controlled by them. In addition to alleviating the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma, these skills allow people to connect with their values and pursue what's important to them.

I believe throughout our lives, from childhood to adulthood there are circumstances that cause us to lose sight of our true authentic self. I value taking time to develop a therapeutic relationship based on trust, compassion and acceptance. My sessions are casual, with a playful caring approach with sensitivity and genuine understanding. When working with children, I like to use play based techniques and movement to assist in regulation while discussing stressful topics. I work with children, teens, young adults, families and adults of all ages.

We work collaboratively and creatively; I check to be sure my directions and suggestions are meaningful to you. I make sure that you are learning something significant about yourself in every session. You deserve the respect and support you need to go into uncharted territory. Dissociative Disorders (DID) Therapists
How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?
Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behavior therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.
Are there specific medications for dissociation?
There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom—which may include antipsychotics like aripiprazole, antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines.
How often and how long are therapy sessions?
Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
