I founded my private practice on the principle of helping others create the life that they want. Often times that means resolving past trauma or issues that stand in our way. Change can be a difficult process, but with someone who understands how change occurs and the pitfalls that can hinder change it is possible. Every one deserves to be the person they want and I am here to help you on your journey of change and healing.

I have been counseling adults for the past four years. I have a lot of experience in treating individuals that struggle with substance abuse and the family and friends of those with substance abuse issues. I have also treated individuals with many different mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression. It has been my realization that most people have experienced some sort of trauma within their life, and this trauma always needs to be considered when participating in counseling/therapy services.

As a former physician, I know that doctors and healthcare professionals can have unique needs in therapy. In addition to having jobs and lives that other therapists may find difficult to fully understand, many doctors do not access mental health or substance use counseling due to well-founded fears around confidentiality. I work with doctors, dentists, attorneys, healthcare providers, and high level executives to provide expert counseling with the highest degree of privacy and confidentiality available.

I currently have daytime, Telehealth openings. Please check with your insurance to verify that you have mental health coverage and what your expected copay might be. Often we find ourselves feeling overwhelmed with our emotions or situations we are handling. Sometimes we feel stuck trying to move forward because it's not always easy to know what to do. We need a safe place to share, be heard and supported. This is what I provide for my clients. I believe the client/therapist relationship is imperative for positive change. I strive to bring compassion, empathy and understanding to each session.

Awesome! You've made it to this moment. Its not easy to start looking for a therapist but now that you've been clicking on a few profiles you're probably figuring out what vibes for you and what doesn't. My individual and group services focus on adults and adolescents struggling with substance use issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, stress reduction, and transitional/life challenges. This is not stuffy therapy. I've been known to swear from time to time (when appropriate of course!) and been told my style is warm and compassionate, offering an interactive setting for understanding, growth and healing.

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
