I have a specific interest in helping transgender individuals access care and supporting them in their journey.
Therapy is a collaborative process where one can explore their thoughts, behaviors and emotions and how those can have an impact on our mental health, interpersonal relationships, and overall daily functioning. There is a power in embracing vulnerability and learning to accept oneself and identify areas where one may want to improve to get where they want to be. I enjoy helping my clients to make meaningful connections and navigate the challenges that life tends to throw at us.

I can help transgender clients transition by providing letters that doctors require.
LGBTQ+ Therapist! I am a lesbian and love working with the LGBTQ community. I also specialize in treating PTSD. If you are someone who has been struggling with panic attacks, or maybe feels like your emotional response to things is out of proportion for what 'the thing' is, I am a good counselor for you. If you are someone who is really hard on yourself or maybe you are going through something and simply need someone to talk to, I am a good counselor for you. If you are ready to transition and need support, I am a good counselor for you. I hope to hear from you!

I have a special passion for working with the transgender community, and I have over ten years of experience in various roles focusing on LGBTQIA individuals.
Isn’t it hard to be a person sometimes? Life can be challenging, and you don’t have to go through it alone. My goal is to create a safe and nonjudgmental space where you can explore who you are, what you’re feeling, and where you want to go. Starting therapy can feel like a big leap into the unknown, and I get that it can be intimidating. I’ve been there! I’m here to assure you that you’re not alone in this. My approach is compassionate and client-centered, meaning that I meet you where you are, and we figure it out along the way.

Through supportive connection and partnership, I believe recovery is possible; and I am enthusiastic about being a part of that process. Having graduated from Shippensburg University with a BA in Psychology, I obtained my Masters in Social Work after working in the mental health field for over a decade. My experience includes working through symptoms of trauma, anxiety, schizophrenia, depression, bipolar, and other mood disorders. I passionately serve folks on the autism spectrum, and in the LGBTQ+ and aging populations. I also recognize and enjoy the challenges that come with working with diverse populations.

I love helping clients to connect with their authentic selves and strengthen their relationships. I work from a framework that explores the ways that early experiences can shape current patterns of relating. My work is also guided by the understanding that many clients' difficulties are impacted by systems of oppression such as racism, transphobia, homophobia, and gender discrimination. Most importantly, this space centers on you and what you're bringing into it; I'm not here to judge, criticize, or fix you, but instead support you in learning about your own internal world.

We all have unique life experiences that have shaped our feelings and responses. Your thoughts and feelings make sense, given these life experiences and what is helpful to one client may not be to another. If you feel overwhelmed and exhausted, I can help. We will work together to gain insight and find the path for your healing. Change is possible when we take time to get to know the different parts of ourselves with curiosity and patience.

Everyone feels anxiety. It is a normal human emotion, but sometimes anxiety becomes too big and no longer helpful. When anxiety feels burdensome, help and hope are available. I enjoy helping clients handle concerns with anxiety, such as generalized anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and a range of fears/phobias (needle, blood, heights, animals, etc.). I also have expertise working with clients who are experiencing depression, grief/loss, the unique challenges faced by the queer community, as well as distinct issues encountered by men in general.

What does a depressed tortilla say? "I don’t wanna taco ’bout it." I like to use a mixture of compassion, humor, and directness. I talk to people in a "real" way (not overly flowery or cheesy "therapist" talk). I want you to feel truly seen and to share in some laughter, but I also want you to feel enough trust with me to be challenged out of your comfort zone a little - to try seeing or doing things in a different way so you can get closer to your goals/healing. I love helping people get past the things holding them back. I'm passionate about trauma, anxiety, and depression treatment.

Transgender Therapists

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?

A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?

Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?

An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?

Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
