I have 25 years of experience working with
children
/adolescents and their families, and I want to help your family thrive.
Being a young person today is hard! Navigating pressures at home and school while balancing a social life can feel overwhelming at times. Often, young people have trouble making sense of their world, figuring out where they "fit", and managing their behavior and emotions. They may act out, withdraw from others, or make questionable choices. My focus involves supporting and educating young people and their families so they can manage intense feelings and communicate more effectively. We will pay special attention to developing coping and problem-solving skills while learning how thoughts, feelings, and actions are related.

Sometimes issues affecting one family member end up impacting the whole family. Is your
child
struggling in school? Is your family going through a transition such as a divorce, a move or other such disruption? Are you struggling to communicate with your spouse? Do you have a foster/adopted
child
who has been affected by trauma? All of these (and more) are reasons to seek counseling. I love working with clients to identify strategies to help you create a happy and healthy environment for your family.

I am trained in Parent-
Child
Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to assist parents and the
children
.
The brain and body are truly magnificent. Sometimes people feel as if their own is broken, different, or damaged. There may be a specific incident that brings up this thought. Or maybe they don't know why they feel that way, they just do. I have taken my time in the field to find ways to treat all types of symptoms with facets from multiple modalities with the approach that the more options a person has, the more likely they are to find something that works. It is my goal to assist others in finding that something to help their system do what it was designed to: heal and connect. Call or text 681-214-0025 to schedule!

child
is acting out behaviorally, it is common for caregivers to even feel hurt and confused. I offer therapy services for
children
ages 3 and up, as well as adults and families for the diagnosis and treatment of emotional, relational, and behavioral concerns, as well as offer support services and psychoeducation to their caregivers and other family members.

As a parent and a psychologist, I believe there is nothing more important than the well being of our
children
. For over thirty years, I have specialized in providing psychological therapy and psychoeducational testing services to
children
and adolescents in the Winchester area. I believe in the notion that to tap a
child
's potential, we need to focus on his or her strengths. Psychological testing enables us to determine just what those strenghts are, and if there are significant weaknesses, direct intervention strategies are outlined and put into play. The
child
's parents are always central in the process.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
