When working with my clients, I utilize various therapeutic approaches and modalities to achieve predetermined goals. I also strive to work together with my clients to face challenging situations and life stressors, in hopes of achieving a more fulfilling and meaningful life. One of the main goals I hope to achieve when working with my clients is for them to become the best version of themselves. I want my clients to know that during the process of personal growth, I am with them every step of the way.

I started my career in mental health as a mental health technician for PEAK Behavioral Hospital in 2006. I then became a Qualified Mental Health Professional/Case Manager for Texana Center for 8 years in 2007. I then became a behavioral health counselor at Eating Recovery Center-Houston with clients struggling with various eating disorders, followed by becoming a therapist for two different PHP/IOP programs, one for adults and the other for adolescents. Finally, I have experience working for a private practice and now my own private practice with clients who struggle with stress, domestic violence, parenting, family conflict, etc.

I offer individual, couples, family and group therapy.

My approach to therapy focuses heavily on collaborating with families and individuals, and together working towards coming up with solutions to make life ultimately happier. In a therapeutic setting, problems can be deconstructed and processed more efficiently so the family can learn to work together.

Here at Heart Doctor & Associates Counseling & Wellness Center we believe counseling is heart work. This means that we understand that we are dealing with our clients from a logical and emotional perspective, and we give our clients the space to navigate the complexities of life using their head and heart. This allows our clients to make empowering decisions about their lives. We work with adolescents, adults, adults going through emerging adulthood, couples, and elderly people. We are skilled in trauma informed care that helps clients move through whatever stage of life they are going through.

I have just short of twenty years experience collaborating with clients to find solutions for areas of difficulty in their life as well as helping them identify and cultivate their own strengths. Whether it's our attitude, mood, thoughts, or even habits and behaviors, when we decide to change, the process can be challenging and confusing, and sometimes hard to know where to start. That's where I come in. My mission is to support clients on their journey towards change, empower them to see possibility and purpose through goal setting, and to help them navigate life struggles in a healthy way by learning and applying appropriate coping skills.

I always like to say God gave me children early in my adult life because I was meant to help children in their own life struggles. I fully believe that God has plans for us even if we do not fully understand them! When our children face struggles that we cannot understand or feel equipped to help them with, we can feel lost and overwhelmed. Children and adolescents are often placed in situation and have experiences that are out of their control.

Living your best meaningful life is something everyone desires. Sometimes we need help along the way on our journey. I am a LPC-Associate who can be that person to help you. I have worked with young children and teens as a teacher and have helped develop minds in a safe and positive environment. More recently I've worked with adults in helping them further their personal goals. My goal is to use an approach that specifically caters to you and will help guide you towards a meaningful life. My ideal client is someone who is open to learning new ways of managing their emotions and life. They might struggle with depression, anxiety, relationship problems, self-acceptance/worth and traumatic histories. They need someone to hear them out and a space to heal and overcome their past trauma and difficulties. They long to improve their relationships, thoughts and emotional responses to stressors. The client wants to be heard and understood.

La’ Merle serves children and adults and provides Individual and family counseling. She works with individuals in order to help them deal with issues involving mental and emotional health that could be related to past trauma, mental illness or substance abuse. She helps individuals to gain insight into their emotional make-up and find healing around past trauma. In family counseling she helps families to work through their issues facilitating dialogues and ensuring everyone’s needs are met.
