Being human isn't always easy, and when life gets complicated and becomes challenging, therapy can help offer tools to navigate through a crisis while providing you a deeper exploration of yourself. Problems in relationships often come from old ways of coping that served you in the past, but now may be keeping you from feeling fulfilled and satisfied with your life. I believe our most challenging times can also be our greatest opportunity for change. Healing is possible, and therapy is a journey towards self-discovery where you get to explore the landscape of your own mind.

Although I use the traditional methods of counseling, I believe in the Holistic Brain and treating many conditions with EMDR, Hypnosis, Neuro-feedback, Nutrition, Exercise and re-training the brain to function optimally. Get on a positive path for growth and well being. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. Unearth long standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

As a graduate of UTSW and Lead Counselor at a Neuro Transitional Center in Dallas, I specialize in adjustment to disability and recovery from Traumatic Brain Injury, Post-Concussive Disorder, Acquired Brain Injury, Stroke and Spinal Cord Injury. Not only adjustment for the survivor but for their families and caregivers. I am passionate about helping individuals work toward having as much control over their lives as possible while providing the tools to do so. I will help them accomplish this through the use of methods that work best for them since therapy is not a “one-size-fits-all” process.

In my experience, clients often struggle and suffer alone as they cope with anxiety, depression, grief, or trauma. My role as therapist is to create a safe space in which you can give voice to the things that are concerning to you, brainstorm with you about possible solutions, and help you develop a specific and measurable plan of action to help you cope better. Research has consistently shown that the relationship between a mental health provider and their client is the biggest predictor of successful client outcomes. To that end, I provide a safe, non-judgmental environment in which you can be transparent and open.

Have you/your loved one experienced a medical event or new diagnosis? Are you having a difficult time adjusting? It is common to experience both physical and emotional struggles following stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, cancer diagnoses, dementia, and other illness onset. Often our roles within our family transition from caregiver to the one who needs to be cared for. Decreased independence and being more dependent on others often makes us feel like a burden. Fears related to these diagnoses can cause anxiety and depression. Role change may place stress on relationships and family dynamics.

Hello! I'm Kailee and my passion for mental health work stems from my own experiences within the field. A social worker once saved me and it ignited a fire within my soul to help others who struggle with trauma, women's issues, or suicidal ideation. I am an Air Force veteran, and I am passionate about helping fellow veterans, military members, and first responders. I also work with perinatal mood & anxiety disorders. I use an eclectic approach to helping my clients as I believe there is no "one size fits all" for everyone. I strongly believe that you have the answers, sometimes you just need help finding them!

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Therapists

When should someone seek treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

People should seek a diagnosis and treatment after a head injury, especially if they were unconscious, and an early diagnosis can lead to a better recovery. Signs of a concussion include headaches, nausea or vomiting, exhaustion, dizziness, vision problems, sensitivity to light and sound, problems with attention and memory, brain fog, unusual irritability or sadness, and unusual sleep patterns.

What’s the most common treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

Treatment for a traumatic brain injury will be different depending on the severity of the problem. For mild injuries, treatment may involve rest and over-the-counter pain or headache medication. For moderate or severe injuries, treatment may involve stabilization, medication, and rehabilitative therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and counseling.

How long does it take to recover from traumatic brain injury?

The recovery time for a traumatic brain injury depends on the individual and the severity and nature of the injury; the length of time spent unconscious is often an indicator of severity. Recovery time for mild injuries may be a week or two while recovery time for more severe injuries may be six months to two years. Research suggests that the vast majority of recovery occurs in the first two years after an injury; recovery after that time frame is less certain.

What if a traumatic brain injury is left untreated?

If a traumatic brain injury is left untreated, it can lead to long-term physical and mental health problems. Physical problems may include dizziness, headaches, vision, healing, or speech loss, and an elevated risk of dementia. Psychological problems may include impairments of memory, judgment, and decision-making, depression, aggression, poor impulse control, and personality changes.
