Bariatric Psychological Evaluations and Therapy (Michigan Residents Only): The Center for Psychological Well-Being specializes in psychological factors related to bariatric surgery and weight loss. We provide evaluations and therapy for patients who are preparing for bariatric surgery or who have had bariatric surgery. Evaluations and therapy can be done virtually or in person. We are compassionate about the battles and struggles; emotional, physical, and psychological, surrounding obesity. Our goal is to educate clients on the psychological aspects of bariatric surgery and assist them with any difficulties before and after surgery.

Barbara Seidel, MA, LPC, CRC, CSAT-candidate received her master’s degree in counseling from the University of Madison in Wisconsin. Barbara’s advanced trainings include being a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist Candidate (CSAT-candidate) which utilizes Dr. Patrick Carnes 30 Task Model for sexual and porn recovery, people who have been convicted of sexual crimes, those who struggle with substance use, weight loss, anxiety, depression, low self-image, lack of vocational direction, physical disabilities, or adjustment disorders.

I have been a therapist since 2003 and if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that everyone needs someone to talk to. We all have feelings, whether we feel happy, excited, anxious, worried, nervous, sad or depressed—we need to get those feelings off our chest. Another thing I’ve learned over the years is keeping those feelings bottled up inside can and will make us sick. Why is something as simple as getting things off our chest so difficult to do? I believe it’s because of our pride and fear of judgment about our feelings. As a therapist, I truly strive to allow people to speak freely in a safe environment.

I have been providing counseling and psychotherapy for over 30 years in the Metro Detroit area and our group practice spans across the state of Michigan. I enjoy working with children, families, couples, adolescents, and adults. I have extensive experience in helping people work through an assortment of disorders, ranging in severity. I have provided individual, family, couples, and group therapy. I have extensive knowledge in helping individuals and families understand specific strengths and weaknesses through completing neuropsychological/psychological assessments for various ages (2-100). I have worked with children who have experienced significant trauma. I strongly believe that developing a trusting environment is significant for each individual through their healing process.
