I believe we are all created for connection in relationship, and that all relationships have the potential to bring great joy and great struggle. Through our therapeutic relationship, by addressing the concerns that bring you to therapy, a process occurs that produces healing, transformation, and growth. My approach to counseling varies, but is rooted in trauma-informed, relational psychotherapy, focusing on key attachment relationships, and exploring the moments, social and cultural constructs, and ideologies that have shaped you.

Is it sometimes a struggle for you to feel comfortable being yourself around others? Maybe you tend to keep your opinions and feelings to yourself unless you’re sure you won’t be judged by family and friends? Loyalty and being there for loved ones is important to you and you’ll often drop what you’re doing when it feels you’re needed by a friend or family member. Unfortunately, it may not seem that they do the same for you when you’re the one feeling upset or overwhelmed. You may be afraid to bring this up, worried that they'll think you're overreacting. Deep down, you want to share your feelings without it becoming an argument.

I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Child, Adolescent, and Family treatment from Seattle Pacific University (2008) and my M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Gonzaga University (2001). I have been a Licensed Psychologist in WA since 2010, and I am paneled with most insurance carriers. I have practiced in a variety of settings, including university counseling centers, public school systems, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, and mental health agencies. I view my primary role as providing a safe and contained environment where individuals can gain stability, increase insights into themselves, and develop more positive coping strategies.

Behind so much of how we think, what we long for, and how we relate to ourselves and others lies unacknowledged shame, trauma, and the strategies we developed, sometimes very early on, to cope with and hide these realities from ourselves. These make up the “muscle memory” of our emotional worlds, which cannot always be easily recalled, but determine our lives nonetheless. Therapy aims to cultivate awareness of what lies underneath in disconnected, dissociated ways, and provides a space to move through the pain, accept, and integrate the past so that it no longer repeats itself in our lives.

I am passionate about helping those struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and Christian spirituality. While I’m totally open to exploring your needs and adjusting my preferences, my ideal client is aged sixteen – forty with a special focus on males and masculinity. Asking for help is difficult, particularly so for men. As a male who has struggled with anxiety throughout my life, I am passionate about helping open the door to healing for men.

***Currently Full and unable to take new clients***The teenage years can be some of the most challenging for both teens and their parents alike. They often feel misunderstood and alone while parents may feel helpless and disconnected from their teenager. I am here to help. Finding the "right fit" therapist for a teen is tough. You want your teen to be able to open up and feel comfortable. Well, hopefully you don't need to go much farther. I speak grouchy, anxious, and depressed teen fluently. I am known for just "getting it" in the teen world and teens truly enjoy coming to see me and doing the hard-work that counseling requires.

I would love to work with you on the things that haunt you and hold you back. Reclamation of personal power will be the basis of our work together. We will explore relational systems such as justice and culture, and the role of the self within these systems. By re-imagining yourself as a cherished and sacred part of the whole, you can identify and heal the wounds that have drained your precious energy and afflicted you with false negative narratives. Together, we will find out what your story truly has to tell us, and rewrite it for your benefit.

Are you burdened with feelings of anxiety, depression, or hopelessness? Do you have intrusive, terrifying thoughts or feel compelled to perform rituals that you know don't make sense? I specialize in treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. OCD is very common, affecting one in 40 individuals. I am highly trained in using exposure and response prevention, the only evidence based treatment besides medication, proven to help sufferers. I understand this complex and largely misunderstood disorder, and I also support family members, who frequently experience frustration, confusion, and pain while not knowing how to help their loved one

Our lives may feel as if they are shifting. We may feel ready for a new direction and unsure how to make meaningful change. Many of our patterns may feel inadequate to meeting the challenges to our daily lived experience. We may experience patterns of lashing out and withdrawing, or feel badly for what we think or feel. Our work would focus on providing the means for you to renegotiate your relationships to fear, guilt, shame, and grief. We also focus on bringing to light the implicit stories, narratives, and beliefs that form the foundation of your self-understanding and relationship with the world.

As a life coach...my clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed and stuck. Ruminating over past regrets or lost opportunities. Life transitions can cause us to feel uninspired, unsatisfied and co-existing with a hopeless feeling. Work can feel overwhelming or unfulfilling, our wellness becomes unbalanced, our relationships become stagnant or even go away and we find ourselves feeling unconnected from life.

If you have been working towards change or struggling with life challenges, I'd like to help support you in finding new coping skills and ways to manage what can otherwise seem to be overpowering struggles. I offer individual, couples, and group counseling for problems related to mood, anxiety, relationship conflict, grief, and/or substance use. Through working on thinking and action, to include how behavior is tied to thoughts we can work as a team to discover self-awareness; then through that process develop new coping skills.

In my opinion and to preface, I am biased in my belief that being a Therapist is an amazing profession. I’m granted the opportunity to witness inspirational growth and self-exploration from individuals of all walks of life. We are able as people to connect on a level that is oftentimes reached through vulnerability from both entities, and with this we facilitate an unveiling of ideas and movement that pushed us towards our collaborative goals.

You and your partner aren’t feeling like partners anymore. You struggle to get on the same page about important issues like parenting and sex. Every conversation ends in an argument leaving you even more disconnected than before. Negative experiences from the past are showing up in your current relationship causing shame, fear and distrust. Maybe there's no fighting, but there's just no spark. You or your partner could be considering ending the relationship.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in Washington are psychologists, licensed counselors, therapists, psychotherapists, and licensed clinical social workers, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualized treatment.

Services offered, education and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in Washington then may specialize in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counseling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.

How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in Washington, or Child Psychologists in Washington.

Many find it useful to use filters to view only psychologists that have experience working with certain issues, like Washington psychologists specializing in EMDR.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in Washington specialize in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Many therapists accept health insurance. Check to see if your insurance is covered. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the therapist.
