Hi - I'm Alyxx. My pronouns are they/them. My ideal client is someone living on the fringes, someone who feels like they have never quite fit in with the thin/white/cis/het esthetic that is so predominant in our culture. If you are ready to do the work to change, I'm ready to walk that path with you!

Informed by liberating-direct-action with workers, survivors of mental health incarceration, and skilled professionals, I value lived-experience just as much as highfalutin philosophy. I believe in the universal human drive to transform + heal through caring community connections, self-awareness, access to dreams by way of meeting basic needs, and the responsibility to recover personal and collective strengths. Healing of the self is healing of communities, and ultimately our interrelated societies. In place of paternalism, I offer avenues for developing your self-trust.

Our lives are shaped by the stories that we carry with us. Healing begins when we can safely share them with others. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process in which we get to recontextualize those stories through truthful and empowering reframes. Clients who work with me tend to find that I often weave their passions into the work we do together. Therapy is best done when we can show up authentically. The therapeutic relationship is arguably one of the most important factors that determine success in therapy. For that reason, I strive to create a space where there is mutual respect, trust, and authenticity.

As humans, we are informed by hundreds of relationships that contribute to the ways we relate to our loved ones, our work, our society, and ourselves. Especially when those experiences seem to conflict, we feel overwhelmed, anxious, confused, self-doubting, or depressed. We can in these times dig deeper into unconscious narratives of who and how we should be without identifying underlying issues. I have worked with clients through depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, suicidal thoughts, self-harming behavior, relationship and attachment issues, relational trauma, intimacy issues, grief and loss, and transitional issues.

You are an adult at a crossroads in your life and are looking for more intensive therapy than is available seeing a therapist once a week or less. You have experienced mis-attunements and/or trauma in your early life and have struggled to untangle the coping mechanisms that no longer work for you. Perhaps you don't know yourself or even know how to know yourself. Perhaps you just keep ending up in relationships that repeat past patterns no matter how hard you try not to. The idea of spending years in weekly therapy to get anywhere feels like too little. You need a therapist who gets it and has been through it themselves.

I center my work with Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) persons at their intersections, most often LGBTQA+, artists, activists, deep seekers, and other healers. Many have a strong spiritual connection to their current obstacles and are willing to integrate that into their treatment. Presenting concerns range from racial trauma to life transitions, grief to identity. There is an understanding that what is presenting is not a problem, where the goal is creating more space around struggles, creating more options, finding a different perspective, and Being more fully.

In our work together, I'll help you explore your personal history so that you can achieve a deeper understanding of your current problems and achieve greater self-awareness. I believe our early experiences and traumas show up in our current lives and can manifest themselves in a myriad of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Therefore, I view therapy as a guide moving us towards the necessary clarity needed to live more purposely, thoughtfully, and with greater self-awareness.

The relationship I develop with both individuals and partners seeks to prioritize and build value around your own unique identity, as well as your singular and/or cultural understanding of wellness, safety, trust, and strength. Together we will explore the intersections of mind, body, community, and spirit to find new ways of being in the world that foster a lively and meaningful life. I consider you to be the expert of the meaning you pursue, and I value time spent letting you in on the “secret” of the therapeutic process so we can bend it to your individual need. I am LGBTQ+ affirming, as well as polyamory and kink affirming.

Updated 4/19/23; Mon/Thurs evening openings. My clients have come to me experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and a myriad of other presenting concerns. In therapy I strive to understand and clarify my clients' goals and help them work toward building insight around their concerns. You don't have to know exactly what your goals might be, and during our work you can always add or change goals. This is your treatment and my hope is that you take an active role in determining the direction and depth of the work that we do together. My hope is that we can end every session feeling that we have made progress toward your goals.

As a Systemic Therapist I love helping people explore who they are, what they want, and how to get past the hurdles that get in their way. I support people around all issues of identity: how they see themselves, what parts are hidden, and how these things affect their interactions with others. I find that issues of identity are often the core of both personal dissatisfaction and conflicts with others, and so I help people explore what those are and how to work with them.

How can I find a therapist in Washington?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
