I have expertise in working with people experiencing anxiety, depression , dysphoria and survivors of trauma.
No one is broken. What does it mean to be you? What are your heart’s secret longings? What are the heavy parts you carry in your body and the hopes that you have yet to speak aloud? Healing is not linear. Let us explore the winding path that is you: in the memories of your past, in your experience of the present, and in the possibilities of the future. I am a transgender-identified therapist who specializes in work with LGBTQ+ people and their loved ones. In addition, I work with trauma survivors, people who have experienced othering, and people in life transitions.

I am a trauma-informed practitioner and have six years of experience working with adults and elders on a variety of concerns, including life transitions and stress, traumatic experiences, toxic and abusive relationships, chronic illness and disability, gender, sexuality, anxiety, and depression . While I work with individuals, there are structural imbalances in our society that contribute to individual problems. For example, rape culture, dealing with patriarchy, white supremacy, colonialism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism. I believe that these structural problems are relevant to the individual therapeutic experience.

I am here to help provide support and welcoming space to individuals who might find themselves moving through the world at contrasting angles to the “accepted narrative” of our surroundings. This can often open the door up to feelings of depression , anxiety, heightened stress, and feelings of displacement & disillusionment. Ongoing life stressors and past trauma also impact how we go about engaging with the world. Learning new ways of coping and moving through life can be tricky - it's okay to reach out and ask for help!

My services are for folks of any gender who are curious to explore their relationship and/or family dynamics. I am especially eager to work with individuals who are curious about what they may perceive as chronic relational challenges. Using a trauma and attachment informed lens, we will explore how our early attachment experiences shape the interpersonal habits and behaviors we can carry throughout the lifespan. I have an extensive background working with youth (13-17), young adults (18-25), and adults. I enjoy supporting people as they navigate life, including transitions, anxiety, depression , grief, loss, and chronic pain

You may have heard a saying that depression arises from living in the past, anxiety from living in the future, and the antidote for both is living in the present. Many of us push away the present moment with distractions, automatic behaviors, over-committing, substance use, and screen-time. Other times when we slow down enough to be present, we might not like the person we find ourselves to be - out of alignment with our environment or acting in ways that don’t match our values. However you are trying to get "un-stuck" or find a more authentic self, it helps to have a guide who can help you find footing.

I specialize in LGBTQ+ issues, addiction issues, anxiety and anxiety disorders, depression and mood disorders, Borderline Personality Disorder, adjustment issues, family trauma, and identity issues.
My ideal client would be searching for a counselor who is genuine, empathetic, unconditionally holds them in positive regard, and can connect to their experiences. They would have a goal of learning new skills, working on behavioral and cognitive change, and are willing to look at multiple solutions to achieve their goals. They would want to strive for success as they see it and want support in removing any barriers for a better and healthier future.

While I'm happy to offer my strengths based, client centered services to anyone who walks through my door, I have particular interest and experience in treating individuals coping with anxiety, depression , and related mood disorders, addiction, life transitions, trauma, and issues specific to the LGBTQIA+ community.
Through my life and work experience, I learned to view my work through the lens of anti-oppression: I acknowledge the impact that systemic, cultural, and societal expectations have on our daily existence and sense of self. We all carry with us a unique set of intersecting identities, which, taken together, influence our life experiences and shape our worldview. I believe that the foundation of mental health exists in the exploration of these identities and the radical acceptance of our whole selves.

I utilize multiple evidenced based practices to address common issues including anxiety, depression , trauma, and self-esteem.
I believe you are the person in charge of your treatment and my role is to aid in providing space for you to share and explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Therapy needs to be a brave space as you are sharing yourself with another individual, as you may feel vulnerable, scared, or hesitant. I am a licensed mental health counselor and certified Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator. If you are struggling to find your voice and advocate for yourself or feel disconnected from your body perhaps we can work together to create space and reconnect.

I believe there is opportunity for healing within the suffering we experience. Psychotherapy can be a way to look directly at what is happening and how it impacts you. I think it is in this looking that growth and change happens. I welcome diversity and practice from a client-centered, trauma-informed, and anti-racist approach. I primarily provide services to LGBTQIA+ identified adults, and allies.

My counseling clinic name is Pain Alternatives because my early practice was primarily in structural medicine. I became interested in mental wellness after years of seeing the inextricable connectedness of mental and physical pain. In my current practice, I use a time-limited dynamic psychotherapy model, and medication prescription and management wherever clinically appropriate. You can come for medication management alone, for counseling alone, or for a combination of medication prescription and management with counseling sessions.

Teletherapy
Teletherapy and Online counseling have grown enormously as a medium for therapy since the advent of social distancing. Most therapists are happy to provide sessions by video or phone.

All professionals are licensed to provide video therapy to clients within the State in which they hold their license. Cross State licensing exists, but is rare.

So if you're a client in Washington, this list of teletherapists are licensed to provide therapy to you online (by phone, video or text based chat) because they are within your state. They are sorted nearest to furthest, with professionals in Washington listed first.

Teletherapy via phone or video can be very similar to conventional in person sessions. The message is the same, even if the medium is different. There are some advantages in the form of convenience, lack of travel and being in comfort of your own home. Set against those, professionals find it more difficult to read non-verbal signals of their clients, and you may find you yourself can be more easily distracted.
