I am a Survivor of domestic violence. My name is Wanda R.W. McKinley, and I went through over 22 consecutive years of abuse. When we go through traumatic experiences in our lives, we sometimes find it hard to express our feelings and thoughts to others. Those trapped emotions eventually find their way to the surface and causes us to react in negative ways. Being a Survivor I understand the importance of being able to express yourself even if it is not verbally. I want to help individuals transition from abusive situations to being self-sufficient in society. The vision is to empower men and women so they can and will survive.
I am focused on working with clients to reduce or eliminate behaviors and habits that are destructive, unhealthy, or undesirable. By implementing strategies that involve setting goals, determining actions to achieve the goals, and mobilizing resources to execute the actions.
I understand how important it is to have someone who is not only sympathetic but can also empathize with you. When you are going through something traumatic like abuse you feel isolated and alone. Understanding how some events in life will have a lifetime effect. It is important to acknowledge one’s emotions and begin to start dealing with them to heal.
