I work with adults who are navigating life transitions, perinatal mental health struggles and who have experienced trauma. I work collaboratively with clients to help them recognize and change patterns or beliefs that may be holding them back from growth or healing. My goal is to help clients increase their awareness of their own inherent wisdom, and to create roadmaps through life's challenges using their own experiences and intuition as guideposts.

I'm David Bradshaw, I am from Washington State, and I have lived here my whole life. I was born in 1990, and I currently live in Birch Bay, WA. I'm an avid reader, I also enjoy Chess, Meditation, Backpacking, Hunting, and Boxing. I'm a bit of a nerd as well, and I build my own desktop computers. I would say the Pasayten Wilderness Area is one of my happy places. I practice Adlerian therapy, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and when needed Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I work with clients age 12 and up including adults and couples. I don't discriminate on diagnosis type or life problem, I work with anyone seeking help.

Do you feel quite alone on your journey through chronic pain? We were never meant to unburden ourselves - we are built for community. Often it takes someone to walk beside us and offer a new route. I personally know what its like to be in and get out of chronic pain that lasted over 20+ years. I needed to know it was possible to get myself and others out of these pain points. If you are curious with how much the brain can re-wire than you would respond to this work; it works for emotional pain and helping us and our children regulate our nervous systems so we can feel more joy and safe in this world.

In my training and career, I specialized in treating children with behavioral difficulties and adults suffering from anxiety, depression and stress. In working with children, my approach includes collaboratively working with the child and their family through their presenting issues and helping institute sustainable changes to foster individual growth in the child and relational growth in the family. This often includes psycho-education and coaching for parents in addition to individual therapy for the child. In working with adults I utilize a range of methods from existential to behavioral depending on the specific needs of the individual.

Currently taking new child, adolescent, and teen clients only... It takes courage to ask for support. Coming this far is a victory in and of itself. You’re in touch with yourself enough to know that you need something to change, although you may not be certain yet of what that change should look like. Perhaps you need a shift in perspective during a difficult time. Maybe you need to learn to cope with challenging emotions. Perhaps it is your child who needs help and you need help learning how to help them. Whatever your need, you deserve an empathetic and dedicated guide to join you on your journey. You don't have to do this alone.

I believe in supporting my clients in their desire to find more wholeness, aliveness, acceptance, and peace within themselves. Using multiple modalities such as IFS, EMDR, AEDP, mindfulness and somatic techniques, and person-centered therapy, I will help you in navigating life transitions, doubt, grief, anxiety, overwhelm, and fear. I rely on holistic practices and tools to help you increase self compassion, expand your capacity to feel and sit with the harder seasons of life, develop both skills to manage the many stressors of life, and make room for more joy, trust, intuition, and deep connection to others.

The human experience presents opportunities, obstacles and constant change. Oftentimes, the challenges we face feel overwhelming and prevent us from seeing the possibility for growth, while the pace of living interferes with our ability to stay focused on the present moment where creative possibility abides. The distractions we all use to keep us from pain do not serve us anymore, but we are left wondering how to live without them. Navigating challenge and finding new possibility are sometimes difficult to accomplish on our own.

I believe counseling is about relationship. There is something beautiful in the way healing happens in the space between us, in the process of being deeply seen and known. I am committed to joining you with empathy in a safe and supportive environment. With compassion and acceptance we can be curious about ourselves and the way we experience the world. And who knows, maybe we will find some humor around being human along the way.

I am particularly passionate about uncovering root causes for such symptoms as depression and anxiety, and assisting clients in finding a path with more meaning, ease and grace. I have a broad spiritual view, and am interested in helping clients find a path in life that nourishes them on all levels. I have an extensive background in working with couples, and in all forms of communication skills. I believe therapy should produce noticeable results, and am apt to check in about the client's direct experience that change is indeed taking place.

How can I find a therapist in Whatcom County?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
