The client-therapist connection is one of trust and empathy and is central to the healing and growing process, forming the container for change. Together we create a collaborative therapeutic relationship where each client has the opportunity to explore their true self, reflect on possibilities, and gain insight that leads to action. Our goal together is to build more authentic connections, with yourself and others, which will allow deeper insight into your experience and define the action needed to move forward.

Hello! Welcome, and thank you for being here. While it’s certainly possible that you enjoy reading therapist profiles just for fun, it’s more likely that you are here looking for help of some kind. Without being indifferent to your suffering, please allow me to say, congratulations! It can be uncomfortable to admit that you are not feeling your best and to decide to ask for help. I hope you are also feeling empowered as you make the pivot towards healing and recovery.

Let's face it... we all need deep, meaningful relationships with the most important people in our lives and great communication is the necessary cornerstone of those relationship. Feeling heard and having our views fully validated and supported by each other is essential to really connecting. Creating a "safe space" to be open and vulnerable with each other is also necessary. However, connecting with each other on an "emotional level" is the real key to happiness and fulfillment in our relationships and knowing how to do that is the ultimate goal. So why are some people challenged with emotional awareness and connection?

Do you feel "stuck?" In other words, you are at a point of change, something HAS to change, and sometimes you have no clue what change to make. And, on top of that . . . you are afraid of change. Life's shows us that change is inevitable, whether the change is planned or not. Often along with that change come some very strong emotions, stress in our relationships, trauma, and usually we are confronted with some decisions we have to make. Hopefully, the challenge we face also presents us with the possibility of new dreams and maybe brings us closer to achieving long held goals.

Deep inside of you is the awareness of what you need to heal. I help facilitate and unearth that inner wisdom with individuals, relationships, and groups. Together, we'll practice tuning into your own unique embodied truth. From there, we can translate that increased clarity into tangible action that aligns with your greatest, most authentic wellbeing. Our bodies exist within larger systems — many of which can disconnect us from ourselves and each other. We'll look together at the messages we've internalized from these systems in order to unearth the ones that are no longer helpful.

Do you find yourself repeatedly questioning who you are and what you are doing? Are you left wondering why you feel so bad when so much of your life looks so good on the surface? Or maybe you and your partner are finding yourselves being driven further and further apart by the same conflict. For the individuals and couples that I work with, therapy is a place to manage these feelings, better understand the patterns that lead to them and what they are telling us. With reflection the intensity of anger, sadness, anxiety or disappointment can fade and we can learn to move toward action in our lives and connection in our relationships..

Ty is a Doctor of Counseling Psychology who is passionate about working with people who find themselves in a place where they have suffered enough and desire true change. Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the power, flow, and love within every person, which is so often obstructed by pain and egoic defenses. He believes in the healing power of vulnerable relationships that enable us to feel seen, soothed, and safe; the extent to which a person has not experienced this, or experienced just the opposite, can sometimes reveal the need to grieve loss. On the other side of this grief is joy, peace, and ultimately, true freedom.

I trust that everything someone does, whether that's the thoughts they have or behaviors they engage in, has a valid reason. However sometimes we may wish to change those thoughts or behaviors because they no longer serve us. I view therapy as a space where we can be open, honest, and non-judgmental to gain a better understanding of ourselves and our relationships.

You're someone who is looking to find just the right fit in a counselor. Maybe you are experiencing grief, or having difficulty adjusting to life changes. Perhaps you have a general sense of dissatisfaction with life, or have specific things you want to work through. Or, maybe you're feeling trapped by anxiety, or past trauma, and you want to feel a sense of hope; to be seen, heard, and understood. There is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to therapy, and the things you may want to work on are important and unique.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
