Through my own personal loss experiences, I was awakened to the resounding touch grief has on every aspect of a life.
I am passionate about assisting individuals & families on their journey through challenges to findings fulfillment, engagement & empowerment in their life. While our past experiences & connections have led us to where we are this does not have to be where we stay; we can choose what will define us moving forward, our pain or our strength. I work to assist clients in developing their own unique path toward growth & healing while honoring & creating understanding around the role their past has played in shaping them. My clinical styles utilize psychodynamic, attachment theory, cognitive behavioral, & strength based approaches focused on creating engagement through individualized therapeutic relationships.

Areas of expertise I offer that bring people into my practice include: healing from the death or loss of a loved one (including pets), anxiety and depression, gender identity/sexual identity, family/friend/partner relationship issues, separation and divorce, compassion fatigue (healthcare, law & academia) and spiritual exploration.
Life is unpredictable and often does not turn out as we had hoped for and planned. The things that matter most to us -- our health, marriages, children, careers, families, friends and even our own self-identity -- sometimes fall apart. It is my belief that such moments of vulnerability present profound opportunities for growth. It takes strength and emotional intelligence to know when you need the assistance of a professional; coming to therapy is a positive first stride towards investing in your own sustainable happiness and contentment.

My passion is working with clients struggling with trauma, loss , and grief (including anticipatory grief such as terminal illness), as well as relational conflict.
It goes without saying, but it is clear in your search for a therapist that something in your life is just not working. When life stressors or trauma happens, it can feel like the whole world is falling apart. Even the act of asking for help can be overwhelming, just another task added to a plate that is already over-full. I am here to make that process of change a little less daunting. I want to partner with you to find new ways out of those places, and give you the ability to face challenges with renewed hope and a fresh outlook.

(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), grief and loss , and the Circle of Security Model, an approach supporting parent-child relationships.
In a world that is habitually fast-paced and anonymous, it is easy to lose connection with ourselves and each other. Are you feeling disconnected or stuck? Like the parts of your life are out of sync? Having difficulties in relationships? Typically, I work with people experiencing disconnection and "stuck" feelings which often show up during times of transition and change within the context of significant relationships including parents, partners, children and friends. I also work with people around the stuck places connected to various trauma experiences.

Are you feeling anxious, off-kilter, or struggling with emotions? Maybe you wish you could connect to others in different ways, but you don’t know how to start. Perhaps you want to change how you relate to your child but don’t know where to begin, or are trying to cope with a loss . My philosophy is that our relationships and experiences set the tone in how we relate to others and ourselves. Uncovering unhealthy patterns in relationships and thinking can free us to change how we experience and move through life, opening us up to healing and health.

Your issues may range from loss of a relationship, living in a confusing relationship, injury through past or current trauma, and/or adjusting to everyday life, such as childbirth, parenting, and work stresses.
When you are looking for a therapist you want someone who will listen, and who will hear your story without passing judgment. Once your story is told you hope your therapist can help you look at your situation from some different perspectives, and help you identify the limiting filters that you may use to view your world, so that you have more choices and possibilities in confronting and moving through tough times.

Experiencing trauma, loss , or upheaval is destabilizing and isolating. It can erode the relationships we value the most while making us call into question our sense of identity. Even if we avoid consciously thinking about it, the imprint of our past can wreak havoc on our physical health, our nervous system, and our present experience. The healing process asks us tune into our intuition and our bodies so that we can notice which parts of ourselves most need our attention and care. I can offer tools and support for those seeking to regain a sense of safety and connection with themselves, others, and the world around them.

I work with adults and teens of varying cultural backgrounds struggling with issues including, but not limited to, LGBTQ+ issues, gender identity issues, body image, self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, grief , sexuality, PTSD, and personality disorder.
Working from a multicultural perspective that employs a Person-centered approach, I am able to gain a holistic perspective of you. Throughout your therapy, we will collaborate as we tend to your inner life; both the light and shadow. I will listen to you closely with care and curiosity, and without judgment. I align closely with Jungian theory and primarily use Psychodynamic Therapy. By helping you find and recognize patterns in your emotions, thoughts, and beliefs, you can gain insight into yourself. I find this approach fosters individuation and integration, allowing for wholeness and becoming the highest version of yourself.

I have over 25 years of experience working with children, teens and adults who have experienced loss and trauma in their lives and feel that these are the underlying basis for many issues people face.
I believe in a collaborative and nurturing approach to counseling. I feel that people are shaped by the families and culture in which they were raised, the experiences they have had, and the stories they create about themselves and their world. Through our work together, I will help you tell your story; to find your voice, and create a new narrative; to feel empowered and connected. I offer a safe, client centered counseling space for you to explore and be curious; to create greater self-acceptance and emotional wellness.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
