Stress,
anxiety
, depression, and trauma can all feel so isolating.
Sometimes words cannot do justice to what you are thinking and feeling, or what you have experienced. The limitations of language and the filters of social rules may make it difficult to tell your story in a way that helps you to feel understood. You may even feel like your story is not worth telling. Your experiences, for better or for worse, have shaped who you are today, but they do not have to define you. My goal as a therapist is to come along side you to help you make sense of your thoughts and experiences, to find strength and resilience in the face of tragedy and pain, and to find hope for the future.

Anxiety
, depression, grief, anger management and general worry are addressed with traditional talk therapy in addition to, when the client is interested, structured movements that complement the talk therapy work.
People come to me usually for one of two reasons: (1) things are going well but they want to grow and evolve, (2) things are hard because of a past traumatic experience or a current situation, and healing and change is needed. Symptoms often include
anxiety
, depression, anger, grief and relationship issues. I work from a depth psychological perspective which means that I address the cause of symptoms as much as the symptoms themselves.

I work with adults and teens in the following areas:
anxiety
, low self-esteem, increased stress, depression, difficulty adjusting to changes in life and career coaching/counseling.
I believe that we all have the power deep inside of us to make the changes that we want in our lives. Sometimes it just takes a little bit of extra support and a different perspective along the way. My counseling approach is one of care, compassion, and empathy. It is important to build a strong therapeutic relationship with my client, one that feels comfortable and free from judgment and shame. Therapy is an opportunity for expression, self-exploration, healing, and learning new skills and strategies to address the issues that are getting in your way. Taking care of your mental health is as important as your physical health.

While I treat a range of mental health disorders I specialize in adolescents with depression,
anxiety
, trauma, behavioral and parenting issues.
As a counselor, my role is to create a safe environment where you can feel secure and supported. My style is respectful, warm and interactive. I value a strong therapeutic alliance as a basis for personal and behavioral change and emotional growth. When working with teens, I find collaborating with caregivers to be most effective in fostering growth and positive change. I also find it essential working with adolescents to build a strong rapport as a foundation to further enhance the therapeutic process.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
