It has been said, that change only occurs when the pain of remaining the same becomes greater than the pain of change. A healthy fulfilling life is full of transformative growth, which can be emotionally difficult, and threatening to established thinking and behavior. My work focuses on moving you toward your stated goals, guiding you through the discomfort toward a new normal. I will work collaboratively with you to explore your particular issue, examine your options, and give you the tools you need to face difficulties and bring about positive change.

You’ve always been labeled high-functioning: successful, capable, reliable, the one others lean on. Yet beneath the surface, you may struggle with anxiety, ADHD, depression, people-pleasing, self-doubt, trauma, emotional overwhelm, or a quiet sense that you’re just getting by rather than truly living. You may be seeking therapy because your body is starting to signal that something is off—chronic tension, fatigue, panic, shutdown, anxiety, nightmares, numbness, restlessness, or other stress responses that won’t go away. You want to feel grounded, confident, and connected again—to your emotions, your relationships, and yourself.

Everyone faces challenges in their lives that may cause stress, concerns, or behaviors that lead to a desire for change. In these times of transition it can be helpful to have a guide who is not a family member or friend; someone who can help by offering new ideas & help to create concrete goals to move toward positive change. My intent is to facilitate that process. I believe in addressing the “whole person”: mentally, physically, emotionally & spiritually, in ways that fit you & your needs because it's You, by Us.

I believe that everyone does the best they can with the skills they currently have. But sometimes life has some challenges, even unexpected ones, that can impact our mental health and well-being. These challenges don’t have to be faced alone. Through these challenges new skills can be acquired to help deal with the stressors life may bring. Together, we will identify goals you would like to achieve from counseling and work towards reaching them.

As a member of both the LGBTQ community and a person of Christian faith, I understand the unique challenges these intersecting identities can present.
With specialized training in trauma-focused therapies, I'll collaborate with you to create a personalized treatment plan that honors your unique needs and goals. I don't promise to erase trauma entirely—that isn't possible—but I can provide compassionate support and evidence-based guidance on your journey toward healing.

Parenting, career transitions, and the daily grind can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re carrying the weight of being the 'strong one' for everyone else. Whether it’s navigating adoption challenges, managing workplace stress, or trying to break old cycles, you don’t have to carry that burden alone.

Are you feeling "stuck", disconnected, or having trouble with stressors in your life? When we are stuck it changes the way we think about ourselves and how we view the world around us. This can lead to feeling disconnected. Every person can experience blind spots in the narrative they tell themselves, this can create challenges in our relationships with our "favorite people." I invite you, your partner, or children a safe space to reconnect with yourself and / or those around you. Together we will work collaboratively to develop strategies that promote healing. I am accepting new clients and work with Mindful Therapy Group.

Hello, we are accepting new patients! Whether you're feeling down or anxious, struggling with hurtful and dysfunctional familial dynamics, having difficulty achieving a healthy work-life balance and/or enduring or wanting to heal from past or current traumas, you have found an ally. Developmental, relational and attachment trauma disconnects us from ourselves, our loved ones and even our spirituality. These types of traumas can leave us feeling isolated, unfulfilled and despondent. We all deserve to feel at peace - and that begins by learning how to heal.

I am a psychologist who believes that if something isn't working, try something different! I try to create an atmosphere for growth that is warm, kind and challenging. I do my best to steer clear of "psychobabble" and offer tools for change that are easily understood and practical. Whether the issues are emotional, relational or social, you'll find a safe place to do the necessary work to grow.

Individuals, couples and families are all seen as my ideal client. I typically see clients from the ages of 13 and up, but I do make some exceptions. Clients who are having difficulties with communicating their emotions, identifying their strengths and their core self, or having dysfunctional dyadic or family patterns are clients who I know I can help. Clients coming regularly and genuinely working with me to accomplish the goals we set out at the beginning of therapy are ideal. If you want to better yourself in any way, shape or form, I will be the person who will try my best to help you become the better self you aspire to be.

Seeking therapy and being open is a courageous step that requires vulnerability and commitment. I have supported many adolescents in expressinging their struggles and how they can use their resources to achieve goals. With the client's help, I gain a better understanding of their needs and provide tools and recommendations that may not be intuitive, but profoundly helpful. My goal is to work through barriers that create pain and suffering and to find new ways of coping that increase happiness, improve relationships with self and others and overall functioning of life.

We're accepting new clients! Hi, my name is Kristy Ann Saffery, and I work with individuals 16 and up struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma-related experiences and interpersonal issues. One of my passions include culturally responsive therapy, making room for people’s culture in the therapeutic process, and creating a brave space for people to be authentic. I want to honor the significance and importance of a person’s culture and how it intertwines with their view of the world. As well as navigating the impact of intergenerational trauma and how that changes the family/community dynamic.

Since 1998, I have been working with individuals, couples, and families and treating issues related to: depression, anxiety, communication problems, interpersonal conflict, trauma recovery, military deployment, abortion recovery, adult children of divorced parents, pre-marital counseling, multi-cultural marriage and many other identity/spiritual crises. I see clients on the brink of divorce rediscover their passion for each other, clients merely surviving with depression/anxiety start truly living again, and clients going through the motions find purpose, meaning and fulfillment in their relationships, in their careers and in their lives. Often 10-14 sessions can lead to significant and lasting change.

Christian Therapists
Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?
Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?
Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?
While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?
The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
