I encourage you to contact me with questions or worries you have, and we can talk about whether this would be a good fit for you or your child .
Therapy is a brave undertaking, and many people seek out therapy at a time in their life when they feel particularly vulnerable, confused, and stuck. Together we will explore areas of your life where patterns seem to repeat themselves, and think about new ways of understanding your experiences. I am a psychotherapist that serves children , teens and adults at my practice in Tukwila. I primarily provide individual psychotherapy to all ages, and supportive parenting sessions. I am also able to work with infants and toddlers and their caregivers together with a focus on the attachment relationship.

I hold a certification in Child -Parent Psychotherapy for children aged 0-5 who have experienced trauma and TF-CBT, which also is trauma focused.
My passion is helping people, or trying to help people as best I can. I know realistically I can't connect with everyone who comes in or solve everyone's problems, but I can offer support, a different perspective, options, empathy and kindness. I recognize that our state of affairs as a country is strained, there is a lot of conflict and I believe people are really struggling to maintain their mental health. I know it's really tough some days and that can be very rough on children and families who have multi-systemic problems and who also don't know who to resolve their challenges or overcome barriers.

My initial training was in family therapy, and I later completed Seattle's first ever child therapy program.
I am a licensed clinical social worker (with a doctorate from Columbia University) with over 40 years of practice experience with children , families, couples, and adults. My approach to our work is "psychodynamic" and I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship. I am open to consultation, crisis intervention, short term therapy, and more intensive, insight oriented treatment. The "ideal client" is the one who is willing to work hard. So am I!

I work with individuals, children & teens, and families.
Parents, are you experiencing emotional outbursts or behavior changes with your children ? Are you feeling overwhelmed or frustrated? Have you been experiencing difficulties concentrating or feeling extremely lonely, sad, or down? One of the bravest things a person can do is to be vulnerable and share their life's story.

When forming this practice, I was reminded of being a child playing outside. Can you recall playing tag at recess? It seemed inevitable that at some point, someone would get so close to being tagged and yell, "I'm on T." What a fleeting gift of childhood - to just call 'time' when the pressure got too high. I have spent 8 years working with children , teens, and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, social skills/relationship difficulties, ADHD, OCD, and more. If you feel that there is something blocking you from experiencing a life you can enjoy, therapy might be right for you.

Seeking therapy and being open is a courageous step that requires vulnerability and commitment. I have supported many adolescents in expressinging their struggles and how they can use their resources to achieve goals. With the client's help, I gain a better understanding of their needs and provide tools and recommendations that may not be intuitive, but profoundly helpful. My goal is to work through barriers that create pain and suffering and to find new ways of coping that increase happiness, improve relationships with self and others and overall functioning of life.

I am a psychologist who believes that if something isn't working, try something different! I try to create an atmosphere for growth that is warm, kind and challenging. I do my best to steer clear of "psychobabble" and offer tools for change that are easily understood and practical. Whether the issues are emotional, relational or social, you'll find a safe place to do the necessary work to grow.

My joy as a therapist comes from working with kids, teens, and young adults (ages 5-25) who struggle to manage their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Kids, just like adults struggle to manage their emotions, however, unlike adults, they don’t quite have the developmental skills yet to communicate what they are experiencing. I utilize multiple therapeutic approaches to creatively approach each client and session based on the needs presented. I especially enjoy incorporating art and play into my sessions, which helps build on the normal communicative processes of kids that are not limited by traditional talk therapy.

Informed by liberating-direct-action with workers, survivors of mental health incarceration, and skilled professionals, I value lived-experience just as much as highfalutin philosophy. I believe in the universal human drive to transform + heal through caring community connections, self-awareness, access to dreams by way of meeting basic needs, and the responsibility to recover personal and collective strengths. Healing of the self is healing of communities, and ultimately our interrelated societies. In place of paternalism, I offer avenues for developing your self-trust.

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
