People and their life experiences are unique, as is their journey within mental health. Many people experience life stressors, including existential crises. In such cases, I serve as a guide providing support and helping clients explore their strengths. I believe there is power in exploring what our purpose and meaning in life is. I work well with those who are struggling with anxiety and depression. I also work with both individuals and couples experiencing relationship struggles. My approach to therapy is warm, friendly, and grounded in empirically based interventions. I look forward to helping you!

Engaging in counseling can be a scary first step. You may wonder if your symptoms are just in your head and if you really just need to "tough it out". I applaud the courage it takes to look for a counselor and entrust someone with the scariest or most difficult parts of your life. I am honored to be that person for my clients.

I have worked in various settings including family shelters, Hospice bereavement, hospital oncology, schools, community mental health clinics, as well as on-and-offsite mental health support for First Responders following natural disasters and traumatic events.
In our work together, we will identify barriers, develop goals based on your values, and focus on creating a pathway to a more vital life. I believe therapy can be a place of healing, support, and unconditional acceptance. I also believe that within that space should be laughter, creativity, meaning, and joy. We won't forget to process the joy as well.

My ideal client might be someone who is struggling with grief or need support for their emotional needs.
My specialty stems from a person-centered approach. This means you are the expert on yourself, but a little perspective-taking can help you resolve an issue. We might try some mindfulness exercises or build a toolbox of coping strategies. The interventions used are mutually designed throughout treatment.

Many difficulties are effectively addressed with counseling, including depression, grief, anxiety, trauma, communication skills, decision making, and relationships with others.
With over 20 years of experience as a mental health therapist and clinical supervisor, I offer a strong foundation for therapy. To ensure a good match with my ideal client, I ask the following questions: What are the difficulties that you/your child would like help with? Are there any safety concerns? What characteristics does your ideal therapist have?

An awakening need for therapy may stem from feeling anxious, perfectionistic or a profound sense of loss, sadness and anger.
Trauma is something most people experience in life. However, for some people, these experiences can be soul shattering. Some events can cause us to lose all sense of ourselves as we collapse into fragmented pieces of who we once were and disconnected from who we are meant to be. I believe we all have value and purpose in this life and beyond. By utilizing a combination of talk therapy, EMDR and creative outlets, I will walk beside you as you uncover all the broken bits and pieces to rebuild the beautiful mosaic of your life after trauma

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
