In addition to treating a variety of mental health concerns, I have a special area of focus in perinatal mental health.
First and foremost, you are not a problem! Unfortunately, this is a message that many of us have heard time and time again. Unconsciously internalizing this message can leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or that we’re just not good enough. I aim to assist in the process of healing from these internalized messages and empower clients to discover their own meaning about themselves, the world, and their lives. My goal is to help you learn how to separate yourself from the problems affecting you, allowing space to evaluate challenges objectively so you can start taking steps to reduce their impact on your life.

I am a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Specialist (PMH-C) and have training to meet the specific needs of pregnant and postpartum women.
If you identify as a young(er) woman, you know firsthand the demands of work, school, relationships, family, and extracurriculars. You look around and it seems that everyone else is navigating life with ease yet you feel like you are spinning your wheels trying to be the best student, employee, partner, mom, aunt, and daughter you can be and...you're exhausted. Things typically come easy for you so you wonder why it all feels so hard. You are struggling to find time for yourself and make yourself a priority. You feel discouraged and anxious and want to feel better.

Maybe you feel stuck, out of control, or you just want to know why the hell you keep ending up in this same place AGAIN. Maybe youre confused by past experiences, diagnoses, or youre not even sure emotions are worth your time but wonder if there is a better life waiting for you.

Many of us have known heartache that doesn't seem to end, feeling down without always knowing why, or persistent worry. It's my life's passion to join people who have struggled with these experiences and help them find clarity, fulfillment, and joy. I'm excited to work with clients as they dig deeper into understanding the "why" behind their choices and motivations, so they can ultimately feel alive and vibrant no matter what they face.

I work with trauma, OCD, pregnancy/ postpartum issues, and sleep issues.
You are a physician who is used to succeeding. You're used to holding yourself to high standards and pushing harder when things get difficult. But lately, meeting those expectations has left you burned out. You're exhausted, your mind won't shut off at night, and you're carrying stress that doesn't seem to let up. You want to feel in control again, but you're not sure what needs to change to get there.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
