An EMDRia-Certified provider of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), I offer this and other evidence-based therapies for the treatment of anxiety/stress, anger, trauma, sex abuse, low self-esteem, and depression for clients 15 years and up.
We humans are blessed with big brains, but overthinking causes suffering. Past experiences can overwhelm our system and drag us down; the unknowable future can be frightening too. Life can become very uncomfortable! Without effective coping skills, we risk developing self-sabotaging habits that address our discomfort only in the short term. Habits like avoiding situations, abusing drugs/alcohol/gaming/food/relationships prolong our discomfort! All ages struggle with discomfort and seek relief. You could spend a lifetime yearning for ease while change is within reach.

You were just talking about laundry. Or was it dishes? Or who forgot to pick up the dog from daycare? Either way, five minutes later you're in a full-blown argument, wondering how a sock on the floor turned into a referendum on your entire personality. You’re trying so hard not to yell, to listen, to stay calm - but somehow it always ends with one of you Googling “communication tips for couples” at 2 a.m. with a pint of ice cream. If this sounds familiar, you’re not broken. You’re just stuck in a painful pattern - and there’s a way out.

You don't have to continue feeling overwhelmed, flooded with emotions, and anxious.
Are you exhausted from appearing to be holding it all together while you are internally overwhelmed and struggling? Have you been avoiding pain or hurt from your childhood or past but you know it is taking a toll on you. You might not even remember a time when things didn't feel so heavy. A few things are for sure: you are ready for some relief. You are ready to feel heard and seen. And you longing to slow down and breathe. Clients come to me looking to heal past wounds, build capacity for challenging emotions, and shift unhealthy ways of coping.

- Evening and Saturday appointments available - I have two primary priorities when we work together: 1) Building a warm and trusting relationship so that therapy is a safe and enriching experience, and 2) Finding a style of therapy most effective toward providing relief. I work primarily from an integrative/interpersonal framework but I also tailor the type of therapy to the client's needs; warm and empathetic for those needing valuable emotional support, straightforward and direct for those wanting immediate and tangible results. I take pride in my flexibility to incorporate varied approaches while still effecting therapeutic change for my client.

Anxiety Therapists
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
