Hello, I am Anna. As a mom, mental health professional, and disabled individual, I know how difficult the world and life can be and how hard it can be to ask for help. I see counseling as coming beside a person and assisting them to best help themselves. Counseling should be a partnership where the person is open, determined and willing to work and the clinician, in collaboration with them, directs the ship and supports them with the tools they need. Are you having a tough time with anxiety? Has your past held you back from your goals? Do feel lost trying to fill your life with "stuff" that never seems to help? Change is possible.

Thank you for taking the time to read my bio and inform yourself about how I might be of help to you. I believe deeply that life is meant to be lived rather than survived. However, it is not that uncommon for the collective experiences and traumas of life to push us into a way of functioning that can begin to feel more like survival. Despite our best efforts we can begin to feel discouraged, anxious, depressed and exhausted. These feelings can lead to choices and behaviors that are destructive to ourselves and those we love.

I help people whose trauma, anxiety, and depression take over at the worst possible moments. Viktor Frankl wrote, "Between stimulus and response is a space" and that in that space we find "our growth and our freedom." I can help you find that space by guiding you in the process of discovering new insights and strategies.

People seek therapy for many different reasons. Whether it is exploring difficulties from childhood or current life stressors, being curious about our behaviors and emotions can help us cultivate authenticity and increased self-compassion.Traumatic experiences can greatly shape the way we view the world and ourselves, and leave us feeling “stuck”. I enjoy working with individuals seeking guidance in healing from and understanding these experiences to help them lead the lives they desire.

Feeling heard, understood, and valued is so important. When you're struggling, it's easy to think that your problems are just too much for other people to handle. My counseling practice is focused on providing warmth and kindness to help you learn new coping skills and strategies to manage difficult feelings and stop negative thinking patterns. Whether it's a hurtful conversation, traumatic experience, or abuse that you've endured, there is usually a good reason for feeling depressed, angry, anxious, or scared. We’ll build trust to look at the experiences that continue to impact you and your relationships.

People often seek out the help of a psychologist, coach or consultant in order to improve in some way. Whether this means at an emotional/social/behavioral level or in a performance-related domain, we take the same basic approach: help you, the client, understand what it is you most need or want, and then work with you to get you there. Our general mission as professionals is to help others - individuals, groups and teams - feel and perform at their best. Our office is located in Spokane, but services are provided statewide. ***We also offer workshops related to psychology and performance. Please email or call with inquiries.

Often times, life stressors within our significant relationships are what prompt us to seek additional support in the form of therapy. Similarly, when we experience emotional distress, it typically impacts important relationships and environments, including friendships, school and work. It is my goal to help individuals and families explore and solve their relational, emotional and behavioral concerns. My style of therapy is focused on symptom reduction rather than diagnoses or labels, and on improving one's overall health and quality of life.

Do you feel lonely in your relationship or is it falling apart? Do relationships seem to be more work than they are worth? Or do you feel like you and your partner are speaking different languages and you just aren't getting it right? We will work together to identify where you have developed ineffective coping patterns, defense mechanisms and protective strategies that no longer serve you and may even serve as barriers in your life. We will work towards more fulfilling, meaningful and connected relationships.

It can be scary to come out to your healthcare professionals, not knowing what kind of response you will receive. When you believe you must explain or defend your identity and culture, it can leave you feeling misunderstood or judged. This is why I have intentionally created an atmosphere where you feel safe and accepted exactly as you are. Since my own coming out, it has been my dream to provide a place of healing for the LGBTQ+ community. I have compassion for you as your counselor and understanding as a fellow queer person. I will respect the experience and expression of your gender, sexual, and romantic identities.

I use a flexible approach to therapy based on Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based form of psychotherapy that has been scientifically tested and found to be effective in clinical trials for anxiety, depression, and trauma. CBT is focused on identifying distorted thinking, modifying beliefs, relating to others in different ways, and changing behaviors. CBT affects the way you perceive situations and influences how you feel emotionally. Benefits can include a better understanding of your personal needs and values, awareness of your patterns of thoughts and beliefs, and developing healthier relationships.

We all begin life while connected to another; protected, sustained and seemingly safe. As we wend our way through life we naturally crave such deep connection with others. Without it, we may feel that we are alone and adrift. However, we all experience life in unique ways, even within the same family. Our quest for acceptance, connection and our ability to risk showing our authentic self to others may be impacted to varying degrees by those childhood experiences that shape our unique view of the world, our communication styles, or even our own perception of ourselves.

Out of Network Therapists
An out-of-network Therapist in Spokane has not agreed to any set rate with your insurer. Your plan may require higher co-pays, deductibles and co-insurance for out-of-network care and you may need to pay the difference between your insurer's allowed amount and what the Therapist charges.

The costs for a Spokane out-of-network Therapist also depend on your type of plan:

In a Health Maintenance Organization, or HMO, or Exclusive Provider Network, or EPO, you generally have to pay the full cost of any out-of-network care.

In a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) or Point-of-Service (POS) plan, you will usually have to pay a higher deductible and or a higher co-pay plus a higher percentage co-insurance plus, the difference between the allowed amount and your provider's actual rate.
