I primarily approach therapy from a relational, psychodynamic framework. I view therapy as a place where we explore how we've been shaped, grieve the pain & loss we've suffered, and try on new ways of relating to ourselves and others. This approach informs my work with both individuals and couples. When working with couples, I help them locate their innermost feelings and engage each other with compassion and vulnerability.

Life is painful. You may feel lost or trapped, overwhelmed or numb, fearful or broken. You need someone to hear and understand you, to support you and help you find a way forward out of anger, depression, anxiety, addiction, or grief. I want to provide a place where you can feel safe, grounded, valued, and respected so that you can face with courage whatever blocks you from discovering your true and unique beauty. I would be honored to join you in this important and brave work, using my expertise and your honesty and commitment. A major part of my work is also helping couples find better mutual understanding and support.

I work with adults who struggle with relational challenges both with themselves and others which often results in symptoms of depression, anxiety, shame and more. Through both assessment and psychotherapy, I help people identify the contributing factors to why they feel the way they do so they are able to gain insight around what affects them and how they might respond differently in the future. My goal is to collaborate with patients so that they can build a repertoire of language around their emotional experience while building new relational skills so that they can be their own advocate and improve the way they feel.

"What is within you that longs to come forth, what waits for you to say Yes?" In my work with clients we work together as a team to create a mutual, shared space of compassion, caring and healing. In this space, problems are explored together, losses and hurts are held together. Where there is trauma, it is transformed through bodily-centered somatic therapy and EMDR. I bring a wide array of therapeutic techniques, from ancient wisdom traditions to cutting edge neurobiology, to support your healing and provide practical skills for reaching your goals. Whatever difficulties you face - healing is the rule, not the exception.

From an early age, experiences within our families and social and religious communities significantly influence how we develop. As we strive to make sense of overwhelming events, we often grasp coping strategies to keep us safe and whole. Despite our best efforts, some of these strategies can lead us into distressing cycles of anger, grief, infidelity, sexual issues, separation/divorce or a general loss of sense of self from narcissistic relationships. Distress from religious or spiritual abuse/neglect may be coming to light. Add on a years-long pandemic and you may be experiencing chronic pain/difficulties or long Covid symptoms.

What keeps you awake at night, or awakens you suddenly at three AM? Or you have that dreaded feeling of having to wake up and face the worry, or situation again with no resolution. It's not pleasant experiencing these feelings alone, feeling you have no one who can really understand, or partner with you to find some clarity, or answers. If this feels familiar, I hope you will consider contacting me. I'd be honored to partner with you, to see if together we can find your joy, clarity and the confidence to be all that you are meant to be.

Things beyond our control in life sometimes shake loose issues that we thought we were past. Coping that has worked before, no longer seems to work or is even now getting in our way in our lives. There are sometimes moments where we can't see beyond the here and now which makes us believe that things will always be the way they currently are. These are pivotal life moments that allow us the opportunity to seek a different path. This may be the time to begin to seek guidance or dig deeper into our issues in order to grow.

When we struggle with depression, anxiety, pain from the past, or traumatic stress, our relationships struggle too. Often the pain experienced in relationships with our loved ones is what drives us to find relief and solutions from the disconnect and disruption we are in the midst of. We don't just want to feel better, we want to be better: Better to ourselves, better to those we love. Engaging in therapy and neurofeedback is about looking for the solutions that will enable us to move beyond the obstacles and into the connections we really desire.

Are you experiencing distressing symptoms from unresolved trauma? You may be experiencing PTSD, flashbacks, nightmares, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, behavioral addictions, and/or substance use. Perhaps you are going through a major life change or crisis and experiencing trauma triggers that are now wreaking havoc in your life & in significant relationships. I work with those who have experienced trauma at some time in their life. Together, we'll explore how & where the trauma became dysfunctionally stored and we will also explore those Parts that are desperately trying to protect the Self from further distress or pain.

I enjoy working with people who are interested in exploring their story. Often we face struggle and trauma in our life that cause us to behave in certain ways. My clients are often asking themselves why they behave in a certain way even if it is not working for them. They are curious about how past hurts and struggles may still be impacting them to this day.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
