I primarily approach therapy from a relational, psychodynamic framework. I view therapy as a place where we explore how we've been shaped, grieve the pain & loss we've suffered, and try on new ways of relating to ourselves and others. This approach informs my work with both individuals and couples. When working with couples, I help them locate their innermost feelings and engage each other with compassion and vulnerability.

I work with adults and couples and have experience working with a wide range of issues. We’ll talk about what’s important for you and what goals you have for therapy, and this will guide our work together. I am interested in learning more about how individuals become able to access parts of themselves that can be open to growth and change. When I work with couples I try to understand what is preventing growth in their relationship and to facilitate an atmosphere for new growth and new ways of being with each other.

Therapy is a time of challenge and change, sorrow and celebration. I strive to provide a climate in which my clients can truly explore themselves and their world. Regardless of technique, I believe that the greatest strength in treatment lies in a meaningful relationship between client and therapist.

Some days, maybe even most days, you feel at war with yourself. You burn through all of your mental (and physical) energy just by convincing yourself to do the tasks that make you a “productive” person. Some days, you win that war and accomplish what you wanted; other days, you feel like you lost it and beat yourself up for not doing better. You may not know where to start because everything feels overwhelming and maybe failure feels inevitable. Therapy can help you by identifying where to start and improving your ability to combat the negative voices in your head.

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist treating individuals, couples and families with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, sexual concerns and career challenges. I work to establish a place where people can disclose and pursue their most personal challenges openly and truthfully. Therapy is a kind of 'second chance', an opportunity to 'correct' behaviors that may have been necessary in the past.

Human beings are born with a desire to be seen, cherished, nurtured, witnessed, engaged, and comforted. People crave connection with one another, relationships fall short, hearts get broken, and our most genuine selves are buried beneath layers meant to defend against further wounding. My passion is helping people find healing and joy after surviving significant disappointment and trauma. I offer clients an invitation to grieve and to challenge defense mechanisms that undermine healthy relationship to self and others. I provide a safe and calm space in which therapeutic integration leads to wholeness and health.

For over three decades, I've served individuals, couples and groups in professional leadership roles. Since 2004, I've specialized in helping adult (25+) men and women: biz owners, executives, therapists, leaders, entrepreneurs + athletes. Many experience "success", yet hide chronic, painful guilt. Some survived toxic families, feel alone, overwhelmed or stuck, struggle w/ relationships, perfectionism or people-pleasing, have unresolved anxiety, anger, depression and boundaries, were unfaithful (pornography, affairs), and keep lifelong secrets. Clients desire authentic healing and growth, often from shameful trauma and/or abuse.

I work well with patients suffering from symptoms that they feel no one has the capability to treat. Many of my patients come to me after they have been to other therapists and have not found relief. My patients come to me for a psychotherapeutic experience different from the usual. The patients who are a good fit for my services are sensitive, intuitive, creative, and have had difficulty reconciling their personality with their personal experiences and the world around them. I am especially skilled at working with acute mental health issues. I have worked at Harborview Medical Center and Fairfax Behavioral Health.

For 25 years I worked with over 16,000 suicidal patients on the mental health unit of St. Francis Hospital with my office partner, Psychiatrist Dr. Sunida Bintasan, From observing their common patterns, I created an educational program (for persons with issues of deep despair, hopelessness, depression, feeling "LOST" & "TRAPPED" & "STUCK", and often with recurrent suicidal thinking) called Contextual-Conceptual Therapy (CCT). Combining expressive arts techniques, education, and therapy using "maps, models, & metaphors", it helps clients discover the roots of their deep despair, feeling trapped & lost, and/or suicidal thinking.

I am licensed in Washington State and I work with adult children, partners and siblings of individuals with Narcissistic and Borderline Personality Disorder traits. It can be difficult to find a therapist who truly understands the impact and wounds of being raised in a home or being in a relationship with someone who has narcissistic traits or borderline traits. My work includes creating a healthy psychological separation, changing the negative internal messages, learning how to respond to others, creating healthy boundaries, stopping the legacy of distorted love and becoming your true and authentic self.

I specialize in recovery from narcissistic abuse, post-traumatic growth, grief, anxiety, depression, and the promises and pitfalls of living a creative life.
Welcome to my practice! As Toni Morrison wrote, "It's good, you know, when you've got a woman who is a friend of your mind." Seeking counseling is a very responsible way to care for what matters most. As your therapist, I listen carefully and collaborate with you to create a personally meaningful plan to meet your immediate needs and long-term goals.

I am still accepting individuals interested in the group for adult daughters of narcissistic parents.
We seek help when an issue arises that we can’t seem to get through. In relationships, we might find ourselves having the same argument with our partner or loved one over and over again. Maybe there’s an internal struggle we’ve tried to solve by reading self-help books or talking to our closest friends, only to find the problem is still a problem. That’s where I can help. Together we’ll identify goals and collaborate on a treatment plan. The beginning of any journey or change begins with acceptance, the proper treatment, and a healthier connection with ourselves and the world around us.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Therapists

What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?

By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?

Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?

It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
