I primarily approach therapy from a relational, psychodynamic framework. I view therapy as a place where we explore how we've been shaped, grieve the pain &
loss
we've suffered, and try on new ways of relating to ourselves and others. This approach informs my work with both individuals and couples. When working with couples, I help them locate their innermost feelings and engage each other with compassion and vulnerability.

Grief
and
loss
are a part of all our lives.
I AM NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. Why get therapy? It's hard work and involves change. But for most people, it's worth it. Therapy is taking care of and investing in yourself. It means you are ready to look at the parts of your life that are not working well-the parts that are hurt, broken or in pain. As your therapist, I will listen with empathy and compassion. Together, we will establish goals and focus on what might make your life better by helping you build resilience and develop coping skills. Through this work, you can learn to be in healthy relationships with others and ultimately with yourself.

Some of these concerns include depression, anxiety, self-image, stress,
grief
/
loss
, substance abuse, trauma, personal growth, life transitions, difficult childhood and family experiences, relationship concerns, anger, and codependency.
Life can throw numerous curve balls, and sometimes we need to expand our support system to persevere and carry on. Reaching out to meet with a counselor is not a sign of weakness, but rather shows bravery and a willingness for growth and change. When an individual makes the decision to enter counseling, it can be an intimidating choice during an already difficult time. It’s not always easy to be open and vulnerable with a counselor. I recognize the courage it takes and approach the therapist-client relationship as a collaborative experience throughout the process. We will work together as a team.

I have experience treating anxiety, boundary issues, codependence, depression, divorce,
grief
, narcissism, parenting, stress management, substance abuse, interpersonal issues, and shame.
Accepting new clients in person only. Insurance NOT accepted. Often mental health issues such as depression and anxiety manifest from unresolved trauma and/or an inability to know or express their true selves. I approach life dilemmas through an existential lens to find hope and meaning through suffering and by increasing awareness and potential for choice and being. I enjoy helping people explore their authentic selves by asking the question “What does it look like to be me?” Integrating the answers with spiritual, emotional, physical, and social aspects of their beings, I help others to live a more fulfilling life.

From an early age, experiences within our families and social and religious communities significantly influence how we develop. As we strive to make sense of overwhelming events, we often grasp coping strategies to keep us safe and whole. Despite our best efforts, some of these strategies can lead us into distressing cycles of anger,
grief
, infidelity, sexual issues, separation/divorce or a general
loss
of sense of self from narcissistic relationships. Distress from religious or spiritual abuse/neglect may be coming to light. Add on a years-long pandemic and you may be experiencing chronic pain/difficulties or long Covid symptoms.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
