We don't have to travel the path of change alone. As we create trust and safety in our therapeutic
relationship
, you’ll find greater margin and curiosity around the complexity of your experience. Inner growth and understanding is accelerated when we have safe and supportive counsel. My role: to help you discover and give yourself permission to see, to feel, to know the reality that is arising in the moment rather than bracing to react to it. Anxiety, depression and other symptoms may be limiting you right now. But the good news is we have all that we need inside and our work can help you discover it and bring it out into the open.

I address mood and anxiety disorders, stress management,
relationship
/parenting concerns, LGBT issues, grief and loss.
Given your past, your current place in life makes sense. You've either been able to respond skillfully (mindfully and rationally) or you've been forced to respond out of fear - for the sake of survival - leading you to patterns of anxiety or depression or thoughts and behaviors that are unwelcome. My goal is to help liberate you from what is felt to be limiting, unhealthy or painful.

Life can throw numerous curve balls, and sometimes we need to expand our support system to persevere and carry on. Reaching out to meet with a counselor is not a sign of weakness, but rather shows bravery and a willingness for growth and change. When an individual makes the decision to enter counseling, it can be an intimidating choice during an already difficult time. It’s not always easy to be open and vulnerable with a counselor. I recognize the courage it takes and approach the therapist-client
relationship
as a collaborative experience throughout the process. We will work together as a team.

What keeps you awake at night, or awakens you suddenly at three AM? Or you have that dreaded feeling of having to wake up and face the worry, or situation again with no resolution. It's not pleasant experiencing these feelings alone, feeling you have no one who can really understand, or
partner
with you to find some clarity, or answers.
If this feels familiar, I hope you will consider contacting me. I'd be honored to
partner
with you, to see if together we can find your joy, clarity and the confidence to be all that you are meant to be.

Our
relationship
is a place where it’s okay to bring things that don’t have space in other relationships.
I primarily approach therapy from a relational, psychodynamic framework. I view therapy as a place where we explore how we've been shaped, grieve the pain & loss we've suffered, and try on new ways of relating to ourselves and others. This approach informs my work with both individuals and
couples
. When working with
couples
, I help them locate their innermost feelings and engage each other with compassion and vulnerability.

I have learned through years of pastoral counseling with singles,
couples
, and adolescents, that the first step is the hardest and most important, the step of beginning the journey to healing by reaching out for help.
Life is painful. You may feel lost or trapped, overwhelmed or numb, fearful or broken. You need someone to hear and understand you, to support you and help you find a way forward out of anger, depression, anxiety, addiction, or grief. I want to provide a place where you can feel safe, grounded, valued, and respected so that you can face with courage whatever blocks you from discovering your true and unique beauty. I would be honored to join you in this important and brave work, using my expertise and your honesty and commitment. A major part of my work is also helping
couples
find better mutual understanding and support.

This means that I assist clients in their understanding of the
relationship
between brain, behavior and relationships/attachment.
I work with adults who struggle with relational challenges both with themselves and others which often results in symptoms of depression, anxiety, shame and more. Through both assessment and psychotherapy, I help people identify the contributing factors to why they feel the way they do so they are able to gain insight around what affects them and how they might respond differently in the future. My goal is to collaborate with patients so that they can build a repertoire of language around their emotional experience while building new relational skills so that they can be their own advocate and improve the way they feel.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
