To decide and take the step toward seeking a counselor is an extremely difficult and courageous one, and here you are. Counseling to me is a collaborative and holistic process. I walk with you and help you to identify your challenges, and pain, as well as finding peace, relief, joy, pieces of you that may be lost and self
acceptance
. Life is difficult, as we all experience, and having a counselor on your side can assist you in finding your authentic self and reach your goals. Through life's many transitions, barriers, and successes, as as well as past trauma, I hope to help you in this.

If you are struggling with a relationship, familial issues, a difficult life transition, or just struggling to get through the day-to-day then it is a good time to ask for help.I believe that it is never too late to start counseling and that counseling is a unique experience for everyone. Some people might go to counseling weekly for years, some might go to sessions weekly for 6 months and then transition to biweekly, some might be going to counseling for the first time, and some might be looking for a new counselor. All these experiences are valid, and my goal is to help you figure out what works for you and what you want to achieve.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist trained to provide psychological assessment and therapy for individuals struggling with chemical dependency, co-occurring disorders, mood disorders, neurocognitive impairment, learning disabilities, eating disorders, trauma, and adjustment disorders. I utilize empirically-supported testing and clinical interviewing techniques to provide thorough psychological assessments and differential diagnoses. My treatment approach is grounded in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. I use evidence-based mindfulness exercises, cognitive-behavior therapy, and biofeedback training to help clients gain increasing awareness of their vulnerabilities and strengths. Clients change by learning to monitor and redirect dysfunctional thoughts before they manifest into undesirable behavior.

I will offer and encourage the
acceptance
, kindness and honesty that supports clarity and positive change.
I work with clients who want more satisfaction and meaning in life and relationships. The pain of anxiety, low mood, ADHD, addictive or compulsive behaviors, transitions, loss, trauma, or relational distress motivates them to look for change. They are curious about knowing themselves more deeply, through the heart and felt-sense experience, as well as the intellect. To grow beyond the safety of the familiar self in meaningful ways, they are willing to face some discomfort and vulnerability, and commit to useful behaviors and habits. They value this one precious life they have here, and want to make the best of it.

I believe that all humans deserve to live a life that gives them personal fulfillment, peace, and more joy than hardship. I can help you work through life transitions, trauma, and all of the fear, anxiety, depression, and big emotions that come with them. I tend towards practices of mindfulness, grounding,
acceptance
, and nature- focused therapies, but my background is in biology, so I also tend to be pragmatic, evidence-focused, and like to help you understand the "why" of the practice as you take it on.

There are truths to living life well that unfortunately few of us learn when we’re young. Counseling with me is about learning wisdom and prudent actions: Trust life's process; every experience holds growth lessons. Embrace patience, finding wisdom in reflection. In challenges, look inward for strength, trust intuition, and journey with an open mind. Balance mind, body, spirit for harmony. Help others selflessly. Your words and actions leave lasting impacts, choose them wisely. Pursue self-
acceptance
, embracing strengths and weaknesses. Love yourself, for self-discovery is lifelong. Keep an open mind, trust in your growth.

My focus in therapy is on helping you create a life that you want to be present for, whatever that means to you. If you don't know, that's ok too (and you're in good company). We can figure it out together. I emphasize a nonjudgmental approach that focuses on balancing
acceptance
and change. I often work with people who are dissatisfied with their lives because they have high emotional sensitivity and have difficulty managing their behaviors, emotions, and relationships as a result of past invalidation. We can work together to both understand and change your unhelpful patterns and help you learn to accept yourself just as you are.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
