Finding a "good fit" is essential when looking for a therapist. You should feel safe to be your authentic self without feeling judgment. I believe the client/therapist relationship is primary for healing and effective work. Within that relationship, I consider you the expert on your own life. While thoughtfully listening, I will also offer insights, invitations to try something new, and help you in building new skills and finding solutions. People tend to find me warm, accepting, and engaging.

Do you often feel lonely? Do you feel depressed and that things will never change? Has some trauma kept you immobilized and in fear? Every person holds the answers to their issues and concerns deep within themselves. With my guidance, you'll examine the beliefs and emotions that keep you from listening to and acting on your inner wisdom. Learn to release anxiety, anger and resentment so that you can make healthy life choices. I create a compassionate, non-judgemental environment in which lasting change happens. Through awareness, you can learn to create a fulfilling life.

Do you feel like you can't quit thinking about painful things that happened to you? Do you wish you could be more like the "you" before the trauma happened? Trauma can make you feel lonely and afraid. You can feel torn between wanting to talk about what happened versus keeping it all locked inside. I know it's hard to take that first step to get help, but once you start to talk about it with someone who knows how to help you heal, you can begin to work to reclaim the life you feel you lost.

I have a special interest in working with issues related to anxiety, depression and PTSD .
Hello and Welcome. I currently have Friday and Saturday appointments available. There are any number of reasons why someone seeks help from a psychotherapist. These starting points are unique to each person. Yet there is often an awareness that a remedy of some kind is needed. This realization may not make securing support any easier. Talking to someone about your concerns, thoughts and feelings can be helpful. I strive to listen attentively and share my thoughts simply.

Change, worry, and upsets are a given. But so is the ability to adjust, heal, create, plan and live more fully. Challenging life experiences can cause us to feel stuck: grief, trauma , unending decision-making, constant fear or worry. We suffer when we are not flowing in heart, head and body. When we carry too much emotional pain, we need to move from isolation to connectedness, gain insight, and find our way.

I am trained in attachement focused EMDR and I specialize in the repair of relationship injuries and the treatment of trauma , stress, depression, anxiety, and addiction.
I am deeply devoted to supporting individuals and couples seeking healing within their mind, body, and relationships. As my background is in client centered and relational therapy, I believe bringing your personal narrative into therapy provides a vehicle for self-discovery. Our narratives help us understand present dysfunctional processes which can leave us stuck in unhealthy patterns and hinder our growth. In working though our stories, we can "unstick" unhealthy processes and journey towards our more functional and authentic selves.

I focus on adults and adolescents with trauma , grief, depression, and anxiety.
Life's stressors can be overwhelming. Therapy shows us new ways of being and engaging through practicing adaptive skills and mindfulness. I help my clients uncover connections between past experiences that shape their current ways of coping. This leads to the ability to recognize inner strengths, identify and embrace discomfort, and cultivate self-compassion to find peace and true connection. With empathetic listening in a safe environment, I strive to be my client’s ally. I use cognitive and somatic modalities to connect mind and body and tailor my approach to your needs, even using humor when appropriate!

I also offer EMDR for anxiety relief and trauma resolution.
As of January 27, 2023, my practice is full and I cannot accept new clients at this time. If you're worried about a loved one with substance use and/or mental health problems, I offer counseling to renew your own self-care while figuring out how to best support your loved one. Helping people close to those with substance use/psychiatric issues is one of my specialties. I am a social worker with 15 years of experience helping people create healthy change. I named my practice Many Paths Counseling because I feel there is more than one right way to feel better, find answers, heal from the past, and kindle hope for the future.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
