Finding a "good fit" is essential when looking for a therapist. You should feel safe to be your authentic self without feeling judgment. I believe the client/therapist relationship is primary for healing and effective work. Within that relationship, I consider you the expert on your own life. While thoughtfully listening, I will also offer insights, invitations to try something new, and help you in building new skills and finding solutions. People tend to find me warm, accepting, and engaging.

Congratulations on taking a step in getting support! I work with individual adults in the areas of anxiety , life transitions, and depression. Some areas of focus in my practice are loneliness, workaholism, relationships, caregiver stress, aging, chronic medical conditions, and disabilities. I often work with people who have family members with severe mental illness. I can help you to identify your values, create goals based on those values, and learn to live a life that is more meaningful to you. We did not create all of our problems, but we have to solve or cope with them anyway.

I have a special interest in working with issues related to anxiety , depression and PTSD.
Hello and Welcome. I currently have Friday and Saturday appointments available. There are any number of reasons why someone seeks help from a psychotherapist. These starting points are unique to each person. Yet there is often an awareness that a remedy of some kind is needed. This realization may not make securing support any easier. Talking to someone about your concerns, thoughts and feelings can be helpful. I strive to listen attentively and share my thoughts simply.

Therapy can help you recognize and let go of old habit patterns that have kept you stuck in depression, anxiety , anger, or unsatisfying relationships or have otherwise inhibited your growth.
Life happens and we often have little control over it. In spite of the pain we may experience as a result, we are equipped with the tools that we need to minimize unnecessary suffering. Therapy can help us reclaim and develop those tools so we can navigate life's challenges and live the life we want.

I help in recovering from depression, anxiety , weakened relationships and friendships, a loss of connection with others in general, or a loss of sense of self.
Deep, respectful understanding is one of the most important things to have from someone. I have found that when one receives this deep respect, great reservoirs of untapped strength are opened. Through it, I have seen people find hope, creativity, and happiness.

I enjoy helping people who are struggling with anxiety , depression, eating disorders, grief, loss childhood trauma and transitions. I see children as well as adults. So much of what we have experienced in life is carried within. Working to identify, label and feel what we carry allows for it to be released. I see mental health as having layers, so as we grow and release what we carry we are lighter and healthier for our work. I make suggestions and share the impressions I get in order help clients find their paths. What works for one may not work for another. I've seen a lot of goodness come from this work and love doing it.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
