Clients I work with are often experiencing chronic and acute illness, suicidal ideation , end of life issues, trauma, grief and loss.
There are so many reasons to seek therapy – depression, anxiety, traumatic stress, grief and loss. You might have developed coping mechanisms that are no longer working and you’re feeling disconnected from friends, family and your sense of self. Together, we will create a safe space for explorations of these difficult emotions.

Therapy is hard, not getting therapy is harder. Taking the first step to wellness can be the most difficult and I will gladly help you navigate though life's challenges via TeleMental Health sessions. I became a counselor to help others find hope and their potential in life. I have experience working with civilian/veteran clients who have been diagnosed with a personality disorder, anxiety/panic, depression, PTSD, adjustment disorders, and who have suicidal ideation , attempts, and/or self-harming behaviors. While we diagnose in order to "name it to tame it," I view us all as human beings who need extra help along the path of life.

For 25 years I worked with over 16,000 suicidal patients on the mental health unit of St. Francis Hospital with my office partner, Psychiatrist Dr. Sunida Bintasan, From observing their common patterns, I created an educational program (for persons with issues of deep despair, hopelessness, depression, feeling "LOST" & "TRAPPED" & "STUCK", and often with recurrent suicidal thinking) called Contextual-Conceptual Therapy (CCT). Combining expressive arts techniques, education, and therapy using "maps, models, & metaphors", it helps clients discover the roots of their deep despair, feeling trapped & lost, and/or suicidal thinking.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation , grief, trauma, relationship problems, and other issues that cause personal and family distress.
It can be difficult to reach out for help. I hope to make this easier by providing a warm, inviting experience without unnecessary pressure. I believe in allowing my clients to drive their own healing processes through new insight into their problem areas, and by helping them build skills for lasting results. I particularly enjoy working with clients who have never experienced the benefits of therapy. My current clientele is largely made up of young adults, but I also work with teens and older adults.

We live in an absurd world, running into expected narratives about how life should be and how we should feel and think. These experiences can lead to suffering: overwhelm, feelings of isolation, meaninglessness, and permanence, leaving us feeling broken. We cannot change our experiences, but we can change our relationship with those experiences, what they mean, and how we approach them. I have extensive experience working with children and adolescents, identity difficulties, motherhood, spiritual and existential concerns, suicidal thoughts and feelings, LGBTQIA+ challenges, domestic violence, neurodiversity, and behavioral concerns

My experience is heavily rooted in Forensic Mental Health. I've spent a total of 8 years working between the court and jail. The last 5 years were spent in King County Correctional Facility as a Psychiatric Evaluation Specialist. I was the primary clinician responsible for the treatment of the incarcerated women on the psych unit. I did a significant amount of work with our suicidal unit and was responsible for conducting the 4 hour suicide trainings assigned to all new staff and officers in the jail. I value the complexity of the human experience and strive to provide a safe non judgmental space for clients to heal.

I have experience working in the areas of depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, self-harm, suicidal ideation , and oppositional behaviors.
Just like every client is different, every therapist is different, and it's important to find someone who you like working with. We could be a good fit if it's important to you that you can talk to your therapist about anything and not feel judged. We might be a good match if you are someone who is willing to try new things, as a lot of therapy is thinking about things in a different way. Also we might be a good match if you enjoy humor in your sessions. Therapy shouldn't be all miserable. I aim for 25% miserable, tops.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
