I am not accepting new clients until August 2023. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults ages 13-30. I'm experienced in supporting clients struggling with anxiety, depression, substance use , emotion regulation, trauma, life transitions, identity exploration, and stress management. My work with clients is person-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed. My style is warm, genuine, and direct. I often use humor with my clients, when appropriate, because laughter can be a very powerful tool and often helps foster a sense of trust and alliance.

I am dually trained in mental health and substance use treatment.
I enjoy variety and, as such, like to invite clients from all walks of life. I'm experienced with a variety of concerns including trauma, relational issues, depression/anxiety, substance use , and compulsivity. I like supporting clients struggling with their own behavior or relationships; maybe searching for meaning in their experiences. I love working with queer people, both sexual and gender minorities. I also enjoy teens 14yo+. I believe therapy is an excellent opportunity for social justice and feel passionate about exploring oppression issues, whether you hold marginalized identities or are examining your own privilege.

With families I assist with communication, conflict resolution, mediation, and substance use interventions.
My approach to therapy is dually focused: I offer evidenced based interventions that teach skills and concepts to help you better manage emotional and mental discomfort. I also focus on insight, so I like to explore the deeper self, your existential curiosity, core beliefs, and values. I have found this approach can increase resilience, foster healing, and allow growth. I am collaborative, encouraging, and enjoy incorporating laughter and humor into sessions when appropriate.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP).
The lasting impacts of past or current traumas, grief, or addiction, can leave us questioning who we are and how to imagine or build a present or a future we are hopeful for. By bringing these personal narratives into the space of therapy, the process of integration, compassion, self-discovery, lament, empowerment, healing, and ultimately freedom, can begin. As a therapist, I am deeply passionate about helping others build, create, uncover, and discover the people they were meant to be and to live in the fullness of the light they were created from and for.

I’ve counseled in the mental health field since 2014 and specialize in treating co-occurring mental health and substance use /behavioral disorders.
My greatest desire as a therapist is to offer a space where you feel seen and heard in your entirety as a human. My hope is to develop a relationship that is completely judgement free, safe, authentic, and sincere so you can dig deeper into understanding the "why" behind self- sabotaging behaviors and thought patterns. Whether you've struggled with a recent tragedy, a relational challenge, anxiety management, depression, substance use , or just need a place for expression- I am here to offer my expertise and walk alongside you at a pace that is right for you.

While I work with late adolescents and adults facing a broad spectrum of issues in their life, I specialize in attachment & relationships, grief & loss, anxiety & depression, and have extensive training in substance use issues and disordered eating — all with a trauma-focused lens.
Telling the truth of your life is one of the bravest things you can do for yourself. For many of us, telling the truth of our lives means addressing stories of pain, trauma, confusion, disillusionment, fear, etc. We long for joy and peace but we lack the understanding and tools to know how to find it. I see therapy as a place to begin telling your truth on behalf of the life you long for. The therapeutic relationship serves as a container & safe mirror to explore your internal realities so you can build tools to help you move more freely toward the healing you deserve and desire. Our pain does not have to be the end of the story.

I am a licensed psychologist who provides telehealth services to California, Washington State, and PSYPACT state residents. While I've spent much of my specialist practice at the intersection of substance use , PTSD, and co-occurring disorders in adults (18+), my generalist training has also prepared me to support those experiencing anxiety, depression, perfectionism, boundary issues, deep wisdom experiences of grief and relational transitions, and overworking/burnout related to high-pressure or exploitative work environments. I regularly engage in culturally responsive training to support members of marginalized groups.

In 35 years of practice as a substance use disorder counselor I have come to the conclusion that individualized, holistic treatment is as good or better than group treatment in many cases. I try to include a client’s significant others in the treatment process whenever possible because support outside the treatment office is crucial, and educated support is the most beneficial. I really believe in lifelong personal growth and see recovery as a foundation to that, not as an end in itself. Recovery works best when it is a process more of running towards the unfoldment of one's natural strengths than away from "bad" choices.

In the context of substance use "Harm reduction values life, choice, respect and compassion over judgement, stigma discrimination and punishment" I’m confident that together we can work to help equip you with the necessary tools to help you face and overcome challenges.
Are you feeling not right in your body or as if you don’t belong to the gender you were assigned at birth? Are you afraid to come out to someone you love? Did your partner or spouse tell you he/she/they are transgender and you are left with confusion and fear? Are you a parent of a child who came out to you and identifies as LBGTQIA and you don’t know how to process your feelings or take a deeper look within? Do you use substances and feel stigmatized by being called an “addict” with no hope for support? Do you use substances and are not ready to stop, but want someone to talk to that will accept you where you are at?

You may have heard a saying that depression arises from living in the past, anxiety from living in the future, and the antidote for both is living in the present. Many of us push away the present moment with distractions, automatic behaviors, over-committing, substance use , and screen-time. Other times when we slow down enough to be present, we might not like the person we find ourselves to be - out of alignment with our environment or acting in ways that don’t match our values. However you are trying to get "un-stuck" or find a more authentic self, it helps to have a guide who can help you find footing.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
