With specialized training in Trauma, Sex Therapy , and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) I work with clients to overcome sexual trauma or issues.
Everyone goes through difficult struggles within their life. What you are experiencing is valid and as humans, connection and support can be monumental during those times. To work towards healing and begin to understand what is moving through you. Emotions are energy, energy wants to move, and when stuck emotions cause stress, it’s the energy asking you to help it move. This is what brought me to this work, to make that experience less lonely for others. I will work with you to reflect in an authentic and validating way to begin to heal the trauma holistically both in your mind and body.

Are you "shoulding" yourself? Do you tend to compare yourself to the accomplishments of others? Or are you struggling to find the motivation for "easy" things? Together, we can work on freeing yourself from overwhelming levels of self-doubt, shame, and people pleasing tendencies. My favorite clients to work with are in their 20s & 30s, who are longing to focus on their own happiness, identify relationship red flags, and explore sex from a shame-free perspective. You’ll leave my office with the tools & skills for applying for that job, having those uncomfortable conversations, and embracing your true self.

As a therapist that works with couples and individuals, with a focus on intimacy and sexuality , I often work with people seeking deeper and more nourishing connections in their relationships and lives. Connection requires the courage to move into vulnerability and honesty to live one's truth about what they really need from their relationships. This is where I can help! I serve as a guide for individuals and couples in stepping into their own lives, to ask for what they need and to be present in and for their relationships.

Less than 5% of therapists in the US receive training in ALL areas impacted in erotic partnership - individual, couple, family, sex therapy , & the spiritual aspects of intimacy.
You were created for connection and pleasure. Are your relationships nourishing or has life pulled them apart? So much of how we experience life fails to give us the skills we need to cultivate deeply attached relationships. Yet when our days are done, this will be what's most important. In the 25+ years I have been in practice, I have developed a way of working that strengthens and integrates the spiritual, sexual and emotional skills individuals & relationships need to heal and experience the connections they crave. My institute (The Northwest Institute on Intimacy - NWIOI) has therapists trained in this life changing model.

My treatment approach in sex therapy involves psychoeducation with emphasis on developing practical skills for specific needs such as low desire, gender transitions, erectile disorders, and out-of-control sexual behavior.
Everyone should have the mental health resources to live their best lives, which includes a strong sexual voice and confident gender expression. There is an immense amount of guilt and shame in our culture that negatively affects how we perceive and receive sex , sexuality , and gender. Vulnerable populations have been targeted with specific, hurtful sexual and gendered stereotypes that can increase psychological distress. As a person of color, I am happy to contribute my perspective and lived experience to the field and your choice of therapists. Sex affects everyone, and it merits focused attention in the mental health field.

Sex Therapy

Who is sex therapy for?

Sex problems are common in relationships. Many people want a better sex life and want to feel loved and desired by their partner. It is difficult for couples to resolve sexual problems on their own because people often feel ashamed to talk about their sexual desires fearing they are not normal, when in fact a very broad range of preferences and behaviors are normal. A sex therapist can help clarify this and other matters.

Why do people need sex therapy?

Many people do not know how to talk about their erotic needs or their emotional needs, both of which are addressed in sex therapy. Couples often live with sexual difficulties for years before seeking help, and in that time, partners may experience so much disappointment and alienation that they may fear their problems mean they are incompatible. Once people experience disappointment, it is difficult to find resolution without help.

What happens in sex therapy?

People have many misconceptions about what takes place in sex therapy. First, it is a form of talk therapy in which partners discuss their sexual concerns; it does not involve touching or physical exploration of any kind. Sex therapy typically helps couples get comfortable talking to each other about sex so that, in the privacy of their home life, they can openly discuss their sexual desires and make decisions about what they want to do. Couples are typically assigned activities to do at home that build intimacy skills.

What kinds of problems do sex therapists treat?

Very often, partners differ in their degree of sexual desire and struggle over how often to have sex. Or they may have fights about porn use or have difficulty connecting sexually after one partner is unfaithful. Men may have problems with premature ejaculation. Women may find themselves struggling to become aroused or to achieve an orgasm. Sometimes partners feel like they have lost the sense of attraction to their partner. These are all common issues dealt with in sex therapy.
