My clients are new parents facing anxiety and depression or grieving after the loss of
pregnancy
or infant, adults wanting to resolve past traumas and painful childhood experiences, and people of all racial/ethnic backgrounds exploring intersecting social identities.
I help people learn transformative skills of self-compassion, develop a deep sense of self-worth, explore how intersecting social identities have shaped them, identify core values, and show up authentically in their lives. I listen empathically, offer feedback and new perspectives, and challenge you to reconsider old decisions. Together, we focus on your strengths and the adaptive ways you have coped with difficulty. We connect the dots of your story, identify the roots of your current concerns, practice new skills in the here-and-now, increase your understanding of your mind and body, and integrate painful past experiences.

Every life is a series of transitions, some of which can feel impossible to navigate. People and families can often feel ‘stuck’ in their current struggles and unable to overcome the challenges and changes they are experiencing. Whether the tough moments are navigating issues in daily life or processing landmark events such as
pregnancy
or parenthood, the need for support is valid and you don’t have to push through alone. Therapy helps you develop the tools and knowledge needed to bring out your unique strengths and abilities. No matter what age or life stage you are in, healing is possible.

I have extensive experience with supporting people process the loss of a child or a
pregnancy
. I specialize in helping parents who have a child with special needs, medical trauma or learning disabilities. All of these life events bring with it sadness, grief and anger. It is so common to feel alone and isolated and like you are the only one who has ever experienced these challenges. It is so hard to not have answers of what the future holds and to grieve what you thought your life would look like. It is normal to feel depressed, anxious and overwhelmed. These are things that I can help you process through therapy.

I am committed to providing access to mental health support and wellness for people and populations who have been overlooked by the field (individuals with intersecting identities, People of Color, immigrant populations, pregnant or
postpartum
women of color, and biracial adults).
There are moments in our lives where we can benefit from additional support. Whether you desire better personal or intimate relationships, you are going through a life transition, or you are adjusting to recent change in your health, you have taken the first and most difficult step by seeking support. I work from a strengths-based and collaborative perspective that focuses on helping people identify and develop the skills and tools they already have within. I have an eclectic therapeutic approach that draws from different modalities. I provide a safe, grounded, and compassionate space for processing, change, and healing.

While my practice will be focusing on Eating Disorders, Trauma, and
Perinatal
Mental Health, I invite anyone who is searching for healing and growth to reach out.
If you are looking for an empathetic and supportive space for recovery, then you are in the right place. My training and experience over the past 10+ years has led to the creation of Wetterau Wellness, a private practice dedicated to healing and personal growth. I am a source of support for those, including birth parents, who may struggle with issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, or unprocessed trauma (birth/
postpartum
, past abuse, etc.). It is often said that it takes a village to raise a child; I believe it takes a village for any person, regardless of age, to feel cared for. You are not alone in this.

I've been an advocate for women with
perinatal
mood and anxiety disorders (PMADS) since 2006.
Currently accepting NEW clients. We can never be fully prepared for how life changes once we have children. When our mood, anxiety, or emotions feel out of control in
pregnancy
or after birth, we can feel like we've lost ourselves. It’s not easy to ask for help. But as long as we're human, we'll have to depend on others to survive and thrive. It's okay to be the one who needs help now. With curiosity, undivided attention, and compassion, I will guide you in strengthening your confidence and identity as a parent.

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
