I am a licensed psychologist with 20 years experience providing psychotherapy and consultation. My approach is gentle, respectful and compassionate, including challenge and encouragement as appropriate. I offer short-term and long-term psychotherapy, emphasizing the development of a warm, empathic therapeutic relationship.
My treatment approach is integrative and most influenced by psychoanalytic, humanistic and developmental theories. Psychotherapy involves verbalizing your thoughts and feelings, exploring relational and behavioral patterns, and understanding how past experiences may impact you now. The needs and goals of the individual guide my therapeutic approach. My personal style is down-to-earth and interactive, with an occasional dash of humor.

Are you often feeling self-critical, spiraling into shame, or ruminating about past actions or behaviors? Do you struggle with self-doubt where you kinda “know” what you want and need yet anxiety drives you to put others’ feelings ahead of your own? If you have big or little trauma in your past, this can exacerbate your already overwhelmed feeling. (BTW trauma is not just BIG events, oftentimes it’s smaller interactions and experiences that create our behavior, feelings and reactions today).

We are all in this together. Counseling is a collaborative process of exploration and experimentation leading to new ways of engaging with ourselves, the people around us, and the world as a whole. By learning how our past shaped our survival skills and beliefs, we create the possibility of acceptance, growth and change. Our society is troubled in many ways, and this is a place to take stock, try a different approach, and plant the seeds of change for ourselves and others. I have over 20 years of experience in mental health, with a focus on EMDR, Internal Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, CBT and Mindfulness.

I help people who struggle with problems that they feel are impossible to change, understand, or even think about. I work well with individuals who are sensitive and creative, and need someone to help them understand the roots of what they struggle with, and how that impacts their life in the here-and-now. I don't work well with people who want to be "fixed" without coming to know themselves better in the process. In my experience, working to understand who you are offers the best hope for lasting change.

Have you been a go-getter all your life, but recently feel resentful and burnt out? As a high achiever, it’s confusing to feel disconnected from the passion that has always driven you. Maybe this dissatisfaction has been slowly growing over the years & you’ve been able to manage it. But now you’re questioning whether all those long hours are worth it. You may also be feeling exhausted & unsure how something that used to be enjoyable just isn't anymore. The habitual stress of being exceptional in your work can also lead to health problems that medical doctors aren’t skilled at addressing. That's where I come in.

Currently accepting new clients. So many people today are walking around, suffering in silence, beset with doubt, self-loathing, and self-recriminations. Especially now, as so many are being told their country is against them, self-compassion and self-love are very important pieces in our armor against the onslaught of negativity. A piece many are missing. I'd like to help you find it. Come to a place where you are seen and heard for who you are, without having to explain or defend your identity, lifestyle, or sexuality. Come laugh, come cuss, come cry. We can do this.

My practice helps individual teens, adults, older adults, closely study their lives so they can make effective and meaningful change. I draw on the extensive transpersonal approach to counseling and art therapy training I received in my studies at Naropa University. I hold the view that my clients' problems and pain, no matter how distressing and debilitating, stand to be their greatest teachers. As such, I choose to see the potential and not pathology in the people I serve. I respectfully meet my clients at their door so that we may embark on this journey of unfolding together.

I've spent 10 years in a private practice working with folks who are seeking help with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and life transitions. I work with clients who are seeking a space for self-reflection and growth, and help in building relationship skills and coping strategies that can help them move through life in a more skillful way. I love working with people, and I use a warm and compassionate approach, not without direct and honest feedback. I'm often described as gentle and grounding, providing a comfortable space for the work of therapy.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
