Are you burdened with feelings of anxiety, depression, or hopelessness? Do you have intrusive, terrifying thoughts or feel compelled to perform rituals that you know don't make sense? I specialize in treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. OCD is very common, affecting one in 40 individuals. I am highly trained in using exposure and response prevention, the only evidence based treatment besides medication, proven to help sufferers. I understand this complex and largely misunderstood disorder, and I also support family members, who frequently experience frustration, confusion, and pain while not knowing how to help their loved one

Living with anxiety or OCD is miserable! I have worked with anxiety and OCD for almost a decade and enjoy helping kids, teens and adults break free from the limitations and distress that anxiety creates in daily life. Often I see clients who are discouraged that talk therapy or other treatments have not been helpful. Research consistently demonstrates the importance of evidence-based treatment for moderate to severe anxiety and OCD . Exposure and response prevention (ERP) is essential for successful treatment.

I love helping people with anxiety, including panic, stress, social anxiety, OCD , and posttraumatic stress. I also help people with issues that often come with anxiety, including insomnia, depression, alcohol/substance use, and a desire for greater resilience. I primarily offer cognitive-behavioral therapies with good scientific support. When life gets tough, it can help to have someone on our side to provide non-judgmental support and practical skills. Finding a therapist who is a good "fit” is really important, so I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to help you determine if my approach is likely to be a good match for you.

Hi there! I’m Julia Hall, LCSW and practicing psychotherapist in New York. I specialize in PTSD, OCD and anxiety disorders and I'm capable of treating a wide range of issues as there is often overlap. I tend to begin by getting to know you, what brought you to therapy and what potential goals you have for therapy in order for us to have a collaborative approach and relationship. I often integrate cognitive behavior tools into the work to help identify problematic patterns in life as well as ways to interrupt these patterns and make change. Other approaches I include over time are providing psycho-education and mindfulness.

I'm Laura, an OCD therapist with over 8 years' experience as a mental health counselor. I specialize in the treatment of obsessive -compulsive disorder ( OCD ), with a focus on using evidence-based treatments, such as exposure and response prevention (ERP). OCD is a highly misunderstood and misdiagnosed disorder, and, sadly, this means that many individuals suffer unnecessarily for years before getting help. I've had countless people arrive in my office feeling hopeless because nothing they've tried before has helped, and I am so grateful I can offer them newfound hope through treatment for OCD that actually works.

Are you dealing with Anxiety, Panic Attacks, PTSD, OCD , Fears & Phobias, Depression, Sexual Trauma, Relationship Issues or Sports Performance? Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT) is a form of hypnotherapy that aims to help individuals permanently overcome the ongoing effects that stem from negative experiences. Unlike traditional cognitive therapy, which only targets the cognitive brain, RRT instead addresses the emotional brain and limbic system. The human mind relates and responds to stories. With RRT a new neural pathway is built through visual imagery, storytelling, and metaphors. It's Rapid Therapy with Lasting Results!

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
