A graduate from Seattle University's social justice-based clinical mental health master's program, I specialize in working with queer people struggling with self-esteem, coming out, minority stress, internalized homophobia, and addictions. Do you feel like an apparent superficiality within the queer community is bringing you down? Do you spend too much time on apps looking for validation, but end up feeling worse? Are you able to talk to your family about your partner? In our first session, I might ask, “Who are you?” I want to work with you to help you become someone you trust.

Creating change in your life can be exciting, scary, hopeful, and challenging. Whether you are experiencing relational distress, going through a crisis or significant life change, or simply feel that you are not living the life you would like to be living, my goal is to create a supportive, non-judgmental and collaborative client/therapist relationship in which you can begin to effect real change. My hope is that you will find more peace, joy, and balance in life — and greater fulfillment and connection in your relationships.

I have no ideal person who might consult me. I try hard to avoid placing people in theories. What matters is the relationship I will have with you. In collaboration, we formulate the therapy goals and how best to achieve them. Each person brings his/her own entrenched detrimental beliefs, that have blocked achieving such complex goals as satisfaction in love and in work. In therapy, I expect those beliefs to be tested. Where I intervene has more to do with fostering resilience, and with the challenging of fears/anxieties that often accompany the sense of incapacity and isolation.

I am an WA and ID licensed therapist and here to help. Often, because of trauma and stress, we might consciously or unconsciously disown parts of ourselves. We might grow to view certain coping skills or patterns as “bad” when ultimately, they most likely served an important purpose in our lives. I aim to help my clients explore themselves, part by part, with gentle curiosity. Through using a variety of experiential approaches, we will work together to heal these pieces, allowing us to become more integrated, free, and whole. Every individual is the expert of their own life and is wise, intuitive, and has the capacity to heal.

Therapy involves getting to know ourselves better - our beliefs, our feelings and reactions, our relationships, and the patterns we live by. I work with people who want to understand themselves better and make more positive life decisions. Many of my clients find themselves continually falling into negative patterns with friends, family, partners, academics, and career choices. Others struggle with confidence, self-worth, and an incessant inner critic. My work with couples and families focuses on increasing effective communication, and finding alternatives to negative patterns of interaction.

As a clinical therapist I am honored to hear people’s stories and witness incredible resilience in the face of trauma, intersections of injustice, and the stigma surrounding seeking help. My passion is in empowering clients in recognizing their own strengths and building upon them in a safe and nonjudgmental atmosphere. I am committed to being culturally respectful and an ally to diverse communities. I have worked in community mental health with children, teens, and their families, as well as providing holistic care alongside medical providers.

My approach to therapy is person-centered, holistic, and strengths-based. I believe clients are the experts of their own stories, and my role as a therapist is to create a safe space for individuals to explore intersecting aspects of their identities. Therapy is not about asking “what’s wrong” and instead about building upon existing client strengths in order to create a meaningful and rich life. I am passionate about providing services to those within the queer community and people dealing with codependency.

I work with individuals and with non-traditional relationships including polyamory, ethical non-monogamy and I have over 20 years of experience serving the QUILTBAG (queer or questioning, undecided, intersex, lesbian, trans, bisexual, asexual or allied, gay or gender diverse). I don't name issues and disorders because labels are important to the people who pay the bills. Help, Support, and Knowledge from a person willing to stand with you when life is becoming hard and solutions aren't easy to see are more important then any diagnostic name or code for what ails you.

I currently have had to pause on accepting new patients. I will update my profile when that changes. Everyone experiences difficult times in their lives. Whether it's struggling with a difficult relationship, work or school, anxiety, depression, or problems in your family or social life, you're making an effort now to change. We will work together on ways to resolve the thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that have prevented you from being who you want and attaining the things in life you really want for yourself. I offer a warm, safe, and confidential setting where we determine what your therapy needs are and how to achieve them.

I work with people dealing with emotional problems that manifest as depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and trauma. The encounters with emotions seem powerful, overwhelming, and mysterious. They may feel so powerful, that you push away, stuff down, use substances, or even allow the emotions to direct your actions and thoughts. It can feel confusing of how you can build strength to overcome emotional wounds. How do you make sense of what doesn’t always make sense? Exploring your emotions with a therapist can be healing and encouraging.

Sometimes feelings and behaviors become obstacles to accessing your strength. If you don't accept yourself as you are, you can't change--a paradox, but true. Self-acceptance can be difficult, especially with history of abuse, trauma, or opression in which shame/guilt become integral to your sense of self. Destructive behavior, in whatever form, has its own logic, but is understandable given your history. We cope in ways that serve to protect ourselves in childhood--serving a useful purpose back then. But now, they prevent you from having stable, close relationships and feeling an empowered sense of self.

I have been honored that people have felt comfortable and safe enough in sessions to discuss their most private experiences and thoughts. People often come to see me because they're struggling to keep up with their obligations between family, career, friends, and their own self care. The frustrations sour feelings toward work and relationships. Loved ones start to notice that your temperament is not the same - you're crankier or more aloof. You may feel lonely and disconnected. Sometimes you don't even know what got you upset in the first place.

How can I find a therapist in Seattle?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
